Closest dirt to Atlanta

Hola folks,
Just moved to Atlanta (its awesome so far!) and picked up a TE510 and I need to find some dirt for it.

Is there any ITP, even just a little? Most of what I have heard of is about 100 miles north and I'd like to just ride there but 200 miles of pavement on a dirt bike sounds painful.

Love to hear some suggestions

Closest for you might mean a trip to Peachtree City or Newnan looking for some renegade trails. Look up Triumph USA in Newnan on Google Earth... there are alot of trails out there according to that. I used to live there and mountain biked alot of them.

Welcome to Atlanta!

Welcome to Alanta.

How do you like the 510 in comparison to the 640?

This ain't no n00b we're talking to according to post count.

There are plenty of places in the area you can ride, you'll love 'em.

The 510 seems to have much more power. The 640 feels much bigger probably due to the tank and all the other 30lbs over the front tire.

I have to ride them back to back. The last two bikes I rode were the BMW 450 and the TE450. When I got on the TE510 with the power up kit I knew what I wanted! It impressed me for sure. You'll have to give it a go sometime.

Thanks for the welcome. I am pretty happy to be here!

Welcome to Atlanta!

You don't mention what part of town you're in, so other than the obvious places up here to the North, you might want to check OTP to the Southwest. I fly over that area quite a bit when landing at Hartsfield and I see all sorts of powerline trails that seem heavily used along with other random trails all over the area...might want to check it out if you're not on the East side.

You may be able to pinpoint some using Google Earth or Live.com Maps. Live.com seems to have better detail in a lot of areas.

Cheers,

Surly welcome to Atlanta. Atlanta is pretty wide spread, so be more specific please. You can Google all you want, but if you want to cheat a little send me a PM. I will give you a private tour. All my thumping buddies seem to have gone street/dirt road riding on me. Well except Wattner, but he must be busy.

Hey Billy, can't say for the street end, but off-road the 510 is a real dirt bike. Take my word for it. Tight trail to a small MX track it was the real deal. I rode one off and on all day last week end. The only thing I liked better in the woods (for racing) was the WR 250. If I could afford one it would be sitting in my garage for a torture test. from me!

thanks dudes

Went to Whissenhunt on Monday.
Took the 640 as I was concerned about gas, mileage, junk like that. Its pretty cool. I didnt ride it all but it does seem small. Not too far away though. I am in north Atlanta (Brookhaven)

I think I will head there Sunday taking back roads and some extra gas in my camelback. A buddy with a KLX250 wants to go too. If anybody else is game give me a shout

This place looks pretty sweet http://www.highlandparkresort.com/index.htm
I better invest in a trailer!

On a Sunday, get to Whissy EARLY (7am!) and get out by 11 before the rednecks on the quads show up. That main trail (and all the others except one side trail) is 2 way and dangerous. I have seen some scary shit out there. Great place though, I live about 10 minutes away.

Thanks for the tip. I'll get on craigslist tomorrow and look for a trailer so I can get to the places a little further away.
