I hesitate to use the word but there was something a bit magical about that place and the landscape. I was riding point right there, you can just barely see me in the pic, and when I got over that crest I just stood up on my pegs and screamed at the top of my lungs cuz it was all too good to be true. We ended up sleeping in some family's living room that night, I'll put up those pics soon. For some reason this place seems to be well off the tourist path, we crossed one group on a mountain bike tour but that was it. There are super humble, friendly mountain people. The two passes are 2506 and 2502 meters high which is not at all bad for offroad, and the col between the two of them is great. Next time I want slightly better camping equipment (a tent not a tarp) to sleep up high.

I feel ready to do something more towards the scale of your journey, still missing the time and money though...

Part 4, Over the Atlas, Back to Marrakech, The End

It got dark while we were still up in the higher reaches and we feared a repeat of our night offroading experience near Agoudal when we encountered two smiling boys tending their goats in a small town. We asked if they knew where we could sleep and they went and got their father, who offered us three beds in the family home for a fair price

I guess it was cool for the boys to have some bikers under their roof. They are non-identical twins but I still couldn't tell them apart. All first born sons in Morocco-and all over the Muslim world if I'm not mistaken-are called Mohamed, his "little" brother is Abdullah.

We let the little guys play with a camera and they got this one of us in their living room, our bedroom.

Prepping the bikes for the last day.

Our last little stretch of track and we savour it like fine scotch.

Northbound over the Tizi n Test Pass, I just can't believe it's coming to an end.

It felt like we were on the roof of Africa. Rides like this shouldn't have to end, it's just straight up bunk. I'm sure last days are statistically more dangerous and as such not have to happen. I was missing my girlfriend but would rather have brought her there than head home.

Plenty of great corners coming down the north side of the pass but I still wanted to turn around and make a quick break for Mauritania.

We're already late returning the bikes so there was really no choice here.

We give the bikes a a quick wash before returning them, to try and minimize the visual evidence of our 800 kms of offroad. The guy at the rental was super cool and didn't sweat the details, just asked us to put all the broken off pieces in a bag and asked if we had a good time. I can highly recommend www.loc2roues.com if you want bikes in Morocco.

Pics are telling the story, I must say that the effort your friend put to capture the moment is paid in a nice way. Really great RR, hopefully will write about our Morocco trip we plan for next year, dreaming dreaming, ...

Nah it looks like you guys were on the right budget this trip, and I'd say most of the continent would be slightly cheaper than Marocc. Just a question of making the time eh.

Great report!

Yeah by the look of things we travel with a similar MO, we never worried about where we were going to sleep for instance, everything can be arranged on the spot with a minimum of fuss as long as you are not a complicated or demanding person.

I really love your report, especially contrasting it with the massive caravan of the Long Way Down trip which took more or less the same route as yours, if I'm not mistaken.
