I like old industrial machinery myself. They really are quite fascinating and cool to look at. I might just take another ride out there and take a closer look. Pics will certainly follow. Also, if anyone is interested, we could ride out together.

I'm surprised it hasn't been sold as scrap yet.

Your right, in the mid 2000's scrap got so high that most all old machinery got scraped. I think that the steel Tonka Toy generation has a soft spot in our hart's for old equipment.

I have no idea what the story behind the drag lines are. They're still inside an active mine, so I'm sure someone knows. I just happened to run across them several years ago while out exploring.

new tag

You will find this tag in a city known for its history. This town was spared General Sherman's torch during his march to the south.

[QUOTE=jub jub;22440016]Anyway, so y'all can have something to look at, I took some pictures of this cool steam locomotive in Jefferson today. Thought it would make a nice tag, but, that's already been placed. I'm starting to find the history of Georgia a fascinating subject and I'm looking for more places to ride that have historical significance. So, if you all know of any cool places I would probably like to explore, let me know.

City cemetery in Savannah.
Follow Sherman's march. There are lots of historic markers along the way
Camp Lawton at magnolia springs state park

I've been to the cemeteries, but have not followed Sherman's march or have seen Camp Lawton so thanks for that. I'll check it out.

Camp Lawton is still being excavated, but a moving place to visit. The springs are nice. I'm fairly close so let me know if you are in the area. Kristal's taste of Country (for the pie) in Millen or Good Day Cafe in Waynesboro for anything on the menu.

Whew! What a terrible day for riding..! First it was cold. Then it was hot. The sun was either in my mirrors or in my eyes all day. Smelly country air with a hint of cow manure.. But at least I get to enjoy a taste of retirement courtesy of my temporary unemployment..

So, here is the new tag:

Doesn't look like much?

Well, a gambler used to live here awhile back. But I guess he knew when to fold-em (or more likely, his then-wife!). I bet they are still counting their money, considering what they put into this place!

I got to take a brief tour of the grounds back when it was still under construction, given by the Gambler's then brother-in-law who was managing the estate. Which was named for a nearby creek, which is named for the product of an industrious rodent engineer! Let's just say their (her!) horses were living quite well.

I have no idea who owns the estate now, or what it is used for. There is a guard shack but I don't think anyone was there when I was taking pictures..

If you see these structures while riding, you are certainly nearby:

These were under renovation when I was last there. Good to see they have been put to something worthwhile.. Very impressive buildings!

I feel for ya, must have been rough! I got to spend my day in a nice, posh, air conditioned office.
