XT225.com is a good site. I had one for a year before getting my KDX and liked it. You'll be able to go anywhere on that bike.

I bought the XT225 to be able to mess around in the woods on a smaller bike, and hopefully have that teach me to be a better rider on the bigger bike (F800GS). No, it isn't a monster off roader, but I like how small it is and my ego can handle it. If I get better, someday I'll buy something bigger, but for now...
First thing I did was take every electrical connection apart and fill it with dielectric grease for when the bike inevitably ends up upside down in a bog (hopefully the electrics will survive).
Worlds smallest pegs have to go:

Thats better:

I've got short legs and a long body. These bars gotta go:

A little further along:

I'm 100% open to suggestions, so for those who have been doing this their whole life, and guidance is welcomed.
risers and bars or taller bar?

Both.
30mm risers and taller bars as well.
All the cables and wires are fine (even on full sweep). I had to move the speedo cable clamp mount up the fender a little and give the choke cable a new mount, but that was it.

The stock XT225 bars sucked. They were low and really swept back (its a small bike, so I guess they make the bars for small people). When I was standing and making a tight turn it felt like they were gonna stab me in the thigh. The new bars are straighter and taller and now it feels "normal" to me.

Now I just gotta wait for more parts to show up.

I've been sniffing around there, didn't find the modification stuff I wanted to find there though (I didn't have that much time to search though). That is where the pegs came from (because 225s have a goofy peg system where aftermarket stuff doesn't fit I guess).

Brought the XT to the shop this morning and washed it. Blew out the cobwebs with a nice wheelie across the parking lot once I got it unloaded . Here it is bone stock:

Next up, bars, grips, tank, etc.
I was going to do tires, but figured I'd trash these first and then get new.
Lets ride!!
Any issues getting it started? I'm told they can be finicky...

Odd two position choke, the one I rode was finicky if you didn't know engines very well and couldn't hear the sounds to lessen the choke.

Four strokes just feel right in sleds. IMHO.

Looking real good MWS, I need to get busy.

Always starts really well. Never had an issue. It has been sitting since Nov or so and it lit right up this morning.
It is cold blooded, so you have to let it warm up a bit before you can hammer the throttle, but it never stalls (just stumbles if you are on it too hard before it is warmed up).

I have read they run really lean and if you want to re-jet it, you can make the warm up easier, but it has never bothered me.

I've had the XT for almost a year now. Mostly running it around my property chasing my son on his TT50RE. In that time I found out what I didn't like (pegs, bar shape), so hopefully when it starts to get some more use this coming season I will have covered the basics.
