Anticosti Island Quebec Ferry Rates And Info

I don't know exactly where to post this, but I think we hit on it before. If it's the wrong location, I'll either move it or link to the thread.

Last week, I put an email in to Relais Nordik, the company that handles transport via sea to Anticosti Island Quebec in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Anticosti is a third larger than Prince Edward Island, and has less than three hundred residents. There are gravel roads running the entire 138 mile length of the island. The Province of Quebec and private outfitters maintain campgrounds and lodges on the island. Gasoline and groceries are available in Port Menir, the largest town.

Relais Nordik begins taking reservations for the summer in April. They indicated that space for motor vehicles is limited.

The ferry, according to the 2011 schedule, would depart Sept Isles, Quebec at 11:59 pm Tuesday. It would arrive in Port Menir at 6 am Wednesday. Costs for this leg are $150 CAD per motorcycle and $64.90 per passenger.

The boat departs Port Menir at 3:30 am the following Monday and arrives in Rimouski, Quebec at 10:15 that evening. It does not stop at Sept Isles on the return leg. Costs for this leg are $235 CAD per motorcycle and $121.00 per passenger.

I assume the entire trip could originate at Rimouski for the same cost on the outbound leg.

I think this would be a great opportunity to motorcycle one of the most remote areas in eastern North America. I am going to make an attempt. If other riders are interested, it may be possible to form a group trip. The ferry offers no discounts for increased numbers of riders, but various lodges and campgrounds offer reduced per person rates for larger groups. According to what I could find, there are no more than a handful of motorcycles which visit the island in any year.

It's the type of trip where there would be security in at least a small group.

No passport is required to enter Canada, but the US requires one or the equivalent land/sea transport card to re-enter the US for those doing so.

I'd appreciate input if anyone is interested.

8 f? Brother, we were eating ice cream when it was that warm. Over here in Outer Frozoutia, it was -10. I almost licked a a flagpole just to see what would happen. I did mount something metal on the trailer this morning, and yes, my fingers stuck to it. No -40, thanks to God. That's where the milk of human kindness freezes.

Kiss a cactus for all us poor bastiges while you're gloating away in the sunshine. Sunshine -- I remember that.

The rules require that the first two bikes stop and do what they can until other assistance arrives. They get their time back.

The rules don't require that anyone else stops, so it was nice of the third and fourth guys to stop and check things were under control, because they won't get their time back. The riders do seem to stick together though, for sure. C'est le Dakar, hein?

Sorry to post while everyone's watching the game -- Dakar

For those of us with feet of clay, here's a good Anticosti web site, with plenty of pics. Ghost towns, gravel, salmon, and hell-for-north.
