Maine Cycle -- The Warehouse closed

I suspect that most of you knew about "Maine Cycle -- The Warehouse" in Auburn and the current story. Others might not.

The building was a shoe factory then cardboard mill. Recently it has had 3 floors of old motorcycles and motorcycle parts. Well organized and available for browsing. There was a rumor about a fourth floor with special bikes of some sort.

A neighbor and I used to ride there a couple of times a year. Sometimes we even needed specific parts. We always checked online for what days they're open that season, but last fall it said "closed temporarily" and now "closed until further notice".

I rode out there today and talked to the owner at the regular Maine Cycle location. Seems the city of Auburn suddenly requires sprinklers throughout the whole building.

So The Warehouse is closed unless he can find another location. It's a lot of stock and a very big space.

I'm glad I got to shop there for several years. I hope he is able to re-open, but he didn't sound too optimistic.

So to spill the beans to the Maine crowd a little early. I am setting up a Beta dealership. I signed the contracts today. Lots of work to do, but parts and bikes are on the way. So demo (demo as in "test", not demo as in "demolition" ) rides will be encouraged. There are lots of details to still put together and I am for sure new at this (although I have been in the 4 wheel vehicle business for 20 years) but I hope to put together something for riders, run by riders.
This is a small thing, its not like a Yamaha dealership, but I hope it will be interesting.

They've been putting a ton of bikes up on Craigslist lately, this would explain why. I've always meant to get up there and browse around, I'm sorry I missed the chance.

... and here is the reason I am not a politican.

Much like the slogan for the Rover shop:
"We may be slow, but we're expensive"

I think it is hard to beat the on-line places on gear prices, but I'll give it a try.

Now we need to get Heatmaker out there on a Beta showing up the other kids.
