Round 2 - Popping Sputtering won't start!

Ok so last time I posted my 2003 GSA1150 (50k pretty hard miles) was sputtering hard popping and then running really rough. I got feedback from everyone which was very helpful and I decided to switch out the fuel filter....http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=405950 I am contemplating taking a trip across the country in December and would love to have this resolved without costing an arm and a leg.

Well I thought it was running better but it's not, I was just hopeful. One additional element that I had not noticed last time was a distinct clicking when the cyclinder is missing. It sounds like a spark is jumping somewhere even though I can't see it.

I rode about 170miles on monday and came home running very badly and parked it. Well today I couldn't get it started at all. It turns over, acts like it want to start and then BLAH! It just sounds horrible almost like the timeing is off, but how could that be?

Options: FEEDBACK PLEASE

-Replaced Fuel Filter
-Checked for vacuum leaks
1. Order a new or used ignition coil from Beemer Bonyard
2. Replace plug wires
3. Burnt Exhaust Valve
4. Control Unit

One question remains open from the former thread; twinspark or not?

If twinspark, check the stick coils, the ones in the middle of the valvecovers.

Paul.

Sounds like you might have a bad coil, they crack and can jump the spark from the coil to a ground. Won't run.

Hey just for kicks I wrapped the spark plug wire in tape to see if it was a spark jumping somewhere. Crap, it started running like a champ. I can't believe a spark plug wire without any noticeable damage could be the problem.
