It’s our way: Black Sea 2014

Hello together,

we finished our journey. We visited different countries like Rumania, the Kosovo and Albania. We would like to tell you about the experience we made and the people we met.

the map of our tour

Day one – let the show begin

We started our journey to the Black Sea on the 7th of May. The goal was to get to Neumarkt near Nürnberg.

The first day of driving didn’t brought spectacular happenings. We just wanted to get very fast our of Germany.

We arrived very late at the camping in Neumarkt, because of traffic jams. But we managed the first stage of our journey and now we can just hope, that the next day will not bring any rain.

Day two – use on of the three lines

From Neumarkt we drove in the direction of Hungary. Therefore we had to drive the last kilometers on the German Autobahn. About noon we arrived in Austria. From this point we only took the country road to get to our goal. In the late afternoon reached the next camping site. The camping is located a few kilometers behind Gyor, in the near of the river Dunaj. At the first moment we thought, that we are on our own on the camping site. But after it got darker and darker, a Bus with a football team arrived. They didn’t disturb us and we made a small bonfire. In this evening we went early into our sleeping bags.

In the morning we shot quickly a selfie of our start today …..

At the border of Hungary. We crossed the boarder without any problems. The next step was to get some cash.

Now it was time to make bonfire, because we were so hungry.

We built up our tend directly to the smashed table. But it is better to have a smashed table, than without any table.

Day 3 – the sun in my bed

The sun was smiling and we had 25 °C. Our journey led us deeper into Hungary. But we became slower, which was due to the traffic routing. Nevertheless we managed to drive 300 kilometeres and we found another cozy camping. Immediately we build up our fishing routes and we had been successful: 2x catfishes

A short break in front of the small city Karva.

Exhausted, we put back 1100 kilometers in the last 3 days.

Our directory, the Motopilot from BLAUPUNKT. Just in case, we also had some cards with us. But it is saving time, if you have a working navigation system. Time and nerves.

Day 4 Romania – who let the dogs out?

We drove further across Hungary in the direction to Rumania. We spent our last night in Hungary on a camping near a sea. There we got to know Atilla, our mentor of fishing. By a few beers he taught us the wisdom of clever fishing. We discovered, that if get more and more east, you will see more poverty in Hungary. In the small villages you couldn’t see a lot of young people. We think they went to the bigger cities to find some work.

In the evening we had a barbecue with some sausages ,which are typical for the country….

One of the most beautiful camping sites during our journey. A looked after camping with a lot of gimmicks.

Slowly but surely they are coming, the free-range dogs.

In the next few days they will become our friends, but also our biggest enemy.

day 5 – time to survive.

Now the day came and we reached Rumania. Our goal was to get to Saliste. The roads are still in a good condition. But you shouldn’t be inattentive. The Rumanians have the habit to cut out the asphalt 10 cm deep if there is a damage! This can be really painfull of you are not watching out. Spontaneously we decided to rest one day in Saliste. We used the time to clean our clothes and to relax. In the afternoon we made a quick fishing trip and we realized that the BMW has an awesome off-road potential. After the trip came to the end, you could see the potential of the BMW in all the mud hanging on the bike. In the evening the camping site owner invited us to a beer and we talked about the hopefully good future of Rumania.

The camping in Saliste is really hard to find. It is located in the near of the city center at a river. It is a well-kept camping. You can have a barbecue, use the WIFI and a lot of other opportunities. The owner had been very friendly and his English was really good.

A small trip. We wanted to go fishing. Started in a country lane it became an off-road runway.

the underride protection von http://www.bashplates.de/index.php?language=en

Fishing extreme. The Problem with rubbish is a big issue in Rumania at this time. The landscape is really beautiful. If you treat the people, who are living there, and the nature respectfully , you will not get into trouble of you are doing a small off-road trip.

The camping site in Saliste. You can’t find a sign to find the camping, because the hotel owner on the main road forbids to put a sign on the road. And here a few more words to the dogs: We two really love animals and we are not dog haters. The dogs became friends because they had been around us all the day and this until Croatia. You have to remember, the dogs are not responsible for there situation and they only want to find something to eat. But in some cases you as a biker gets snarl without a reason and the dogs follow you, if you get into their area. If you let your meal out of sight only for a few minutes, it will be gone. It doesn’t matter where you are doing your break, after a few minutes you will have an escort and this can be really annoying. In the cities you will find partially big pride of dogs. You should avoid them, especially at night and when you are less then them.

day 6 a beautiful day

It rained the most time of the day. But this doesn’t stop us to drive with pleasant anticipation to the SOS-Children Village in Cisnadie. After we arrived there, the director of the village cordially received us. He and an educator showed us the village with all the buildings. Later that day, when the children came back from the kindergarten, we gave them our collected presents and the brave ones had the opportunity to drive with us on the motorbikes. These are the seconds of light-heartedness, the shining joy in the eyes of the kids shows us, that we are doing the right thing!

Pascal and one of the kindergarten children at the handover of the collected donations.

Group picture with the children of the kindergarten.

Who dare and wanted had the opportunity to drive with us.

… it doesn’t matter if tall or small.

First of all we want to thank you for the positive feedback. It is not as easy as it looks. For the connection of such a big journey with a social aspect it is necessary to plan a lot in advance. For that reason we are even more happy, that you like it.
And let’s go on ….

day 7 - the ride to the ocean

...thanks B10Dave!!

Our Night in the mountains had been very cheap. The camping site, a mixture of scrap yard and dog kennel should cost 10 €. A room with a shower, TV and a great bed should cost 15 € ….. no, we definitely didn’t chose the camping site.
In the next morning we steered our bikes in the direction of the black sea. Sunshine, straight streets and the breeze of anticipation had been with us. We drove 450 kilometers of country roads in 8 hours. Our goal was the camping called Venus. That’s no joke, it is really the name of the camping and the city as well, but that’s the only positive to say about this location. We had been there alone with some guest workers. The hotels and camping sites looked like Sochi three weeks before the Olympic Games: degenerated, bedraggled and certainly everywhere dogs.

Into the bargain the Suzuki of Pascal quitted the work. After Pascal pushed the bike two kilometers to the camping and some telephone calls later it had been certain, the good bike had to see a workshop. We had no clue how the story ends ….

In a Rumanian city. We had a snack (doner) for lunch. Verrry tasty!

The first defects at the Suzuki. The light didn’t work anymore. We found a replacement in the next gas station.

Definitely not the wrong car to slide comfortable above the potholes.

A quick stop near an old freight yard.

day 8 - the day after tomorrow

Day 8 the day after tomorrow

The breakdown service came sharp 9 o’clock and brought the bike back to Constanta to a small and free motorbike workshop. A kind mechanic started motivated with his job to find the problem and to solve it. Meanwhile Matias went for shopping with the girlfriend of the mechanic.

Constanta is a known city and has a great story. But with the rain at this day the city looked more gray and dull. Likely the appearance of the city changes in the peak season, when there are a lot of street hawkers who are presenting their goods.

After six hours it had been certain, the ignition coil and the CDI are most likely damaged. Because new parts couldn’t be shipped in three days of time to the workshop the ADAC brought the bike back home. But what’s with us? How should the journey go on? Should we give up?

The BMW had been unimpressed by the whole theater. The tread bar KENDA tires already wanted to see even more dirt and the BMW gave us the signals to go on with the journey. Why not, so we rode the bike together. Who thought we give up and come back home had the wrong impression of us.

Next stop: The golden sands of Bulgaria

At 9 o’clock he had been there … and the Suzuki lay back her last kilometers to Constante in piggyback style.

Indestructible, the Motopilot.

A good time to shout … with that strong wind nobody will hear it…..

We tried to fish something, of course by being watched.

At least the way back home is emblazed.

day 9 - two man, one bike

This had been our first day together on one bike. We only took the really necessary stuff with us and put the rest into the boxes of the Suzuki, so our journey could go on. We followed the coast of the Black Sea in the direction of Turkey. Not for away from the boarder of Turkey we built up our camp on a small camp site. The area of the camping had been very big. Today there is only a small part cultivated, because the tourists are missing. But the owners refurbish the camping, probably because the future prospects are changing.

After we used the opportunities to get some information about the Ukraine, as well from domestic people, everybody gave us the advice not to cross Ukraine, so we had to dismiss our plan to drive to Georgia. The risk seems to big, that something can happen. In the end the safety is the most important thing and at the last few months Ukraine and Russia lost the aspect of safety.

Instead we are heading towards Turkey and on our journey we want to visit Greek.

The suzuki from pascal has an engine damage...

The way to the beach, which had been empty of people, can been easily covered by foot.

Finally a few minutes of resting with nothing else than the sound of the sea. No couch of the world can be so convenient and relaxing …

And of course we did a fire, because that is what the GERMANS can do!

They are working everywhere. If the investments will pay off will the future show.

day 10 - tomorrowland

Started from the coast in Bulgaria we drove to the border of Turkey. The roads had been very bad and the BMW and the attachments had to withstand a lot. On the way there had been everywhere police, but good for us they didn’t bothered about us. We passed the border easily. We had to register the bike, get a stamp from the chief and all hell was let loose. The chiefinspector gave us his OK and the journey could go on in the direction towards Istanbul. The boarder area is impressively secured, of course, because it is an EU external frontier of the community.

Istanbul, a megacity, made our life to hell. 26 degrees and a city, which consists only of a big traffic jam. The car drives are driving very aggressive, every small gap has to be used. We didn’t had a lot of time to keep an eye on Istanbul. Who really wants to see the city, should instead of using a car, fly there by plain and take a week time to see all the amazing places in Istanbul. Around 9 o’clock in the evening we reached Sile totally exhausted.

A snapshot: In the morning in Bulgaria, around 200 kilometers away from Turkey.

A short break in Istanbul. It is speciousness, but we really had to fight from this point. You have two opportunities to get to Asia: The first way to get there is by the ferry or you take the bridge, which is without a road charge.

Another country, another culture.

Primarily we had the plan to camp in Sile. But the camping site had closed. Maybe we could convince on of the bar owners at the beach, that we would like to camp there, but we decided to take a hotel room instead.
