Alstergren rd Tasmanian a quick sunday ride and Part two with even more pictures

I went for a little ride up in them there hills to a place where almost no one lives and i had not been up there for some 8 years or so.

back then i had noted a sign "Alstergren rd" so i got thinking about its location it had to go some where!! i worked it out just by looking on a map...so i just had to go do it

i went to Gunns plains on the boring highway then into the twistys...much to fun to stop and take any pics but i did stop at a look out

now in the first pic on the far right is a ridge this is from the other side via south Riana

start of the dirt road
8 years ago this had just been planted....now some of its being logged

this is Loyatea not much here...some old pot smokers with old looking farms in the bush anyway to go ahead you must get around one of the Forestry's most annoying creations the "boom gate" have fun on your GS1200's

more boring dirt road very easy then the "start" of Alstergren rd it looks over grown dark and forbidding........lets go

it turns out to be Very mossy wet and mushy with a slippery rocky base so lots of sliding about it got to the size of an ATV track very fast
almost no sign that anyone has used it in years

i came to a point where a bridge had fallen and the forestry had dug out ditchs to stop people trying to cross......

down here

along this

up this

to here not much stops the bikes

not much longer and i came out to the place i had been years ago and seen the sign this is the Loongana end

no 4x4's going though there in any hurry

looking south to the mountains

that's Black Bluff up there some where

now to ride up and out of the Leven valley

i stopped up at the Tourist area and had to take some pics looking down into the canyon

from the canyon look out(10min walk from the car park) looking back the way i had come from

i only stopped once on the way back through Sprent, paloona,Melrose etc on my way home to Latrobe
but i did take this pic of Mt Roland from the top of the paloona rd

only a quick 180km's for Sunday i will do the ride again with a helmet cam as most of its too much fun to stop for picture taking

cheers all Steve theMISSIONARY

Thumb Amazing!!

Great RR & Picures Myte....

Amazing to see the exact spot where I stopped as well and took Pictures During my Tassie trip Last year!! It is a small world indeed!!

Of course, After that photo, I proceeded to Stanley for the night and did the Western Explorers road next day. None of the ADV tracks you did myte....

It is Butifoool Country out there!!

G'day all,
well theMISSIONARY and I travelled this road again today, only in the opposite direction, which made things a little more interesting (more on that later)

A few pics of Alstergren Road:

I have ridden this road a few times, years ago when the bridge still worked and the road saw more traffic, but now it is overgrown, wet, moss covered and very slippery!

It's a great advroad. Isolated, moderately challenging, great scenery, and it is a very good shortcut to cut out lots of tar. Almost no one but an advrider would use this road as it's a lot of tar to get here, and 4wds have no chance of getting through, as you will see later.

We find the reason for this sign:

Through the slippery rock creek, then a sharp turn with zero distance for a run up to this:

Short, steep and slippery. Last trip theMISSIONARY rode down this obstacle, but going up is a team effort!

Righto, you go first Steve, I'll take photos before rendering assistance:

The two of us got each bike through eventually!

And the exit, and a much needed break from hauling the DR's up this hill:

And so we press on, all obstacles are easy after that one.

Doesnt look much like a main road anymore:

The last vehicle to drive through here perhaps?
The remains of a very old tractor:

A very enjoyable road.

Cheers
Rob

Haha, yes the DR doesn't know what hit it! Its only known hot sun and dusty roads! And now I'm thinking about lower gearing, full knobbies.....
