Baja Designs Fuego Lights - New, Lower Price

While out in Sunny California I stopped by the Baja Designs shop yesterday to put faces with names and they informed me that there was some new pricing on the Fuego HID's.

So, hot off the press our Baja Designs Soltek Fuego 4" HID lights have been dropped from $389/each to $325 each .

If you're looking to add some serious light to your ride you NEED these lights. Since the Ballasts are integrated into the light you don't have to worry about finding a place to squeeze them on your bike.

Check them, and various mounts out at our Motorcycle Auxillary lighting page .

I believe they draw 35 watts each. These are serious lights!! I got a set for rallymoto and recently mounted them on my GSA to help my morning (pre-dawn) commute. Best lights you can get although a tad much for street use on all but remote roads. I converted one over to a wide-cornering lense.

You are correct on both points. 35W, they just revised their warranty policy from a 3yr to a lifetime and they do put out some good light.

I upgraded from a set of PHID's to these and haven't regreted it for a minute.

Street use

When you say they are a 'tad much for street use,' are they a lot brighter than the HID lights you see on cars and such.

I have an KTM Enduro 690 and I am trying to find some way to increase the light output for bad weather/night driving on the highway. These are really attractive to me and seem to pull less juice than the touratech HIDs.

Just do not want to get pulled every time I drive the kTM to work.

Michael

of course, there is also the little matter of trying to figure out how to mount the lights...

I had PHID's before my Fuego's. The PHID's are commonly referred to as "Eyes of God" of driving lights and the Fuego's are brighter than them.

You definitely need to be a responsible rider when you mount these and take the time to aim them properly. Before I aimed mine I got flashed by Semi's and those are the last people I want to upset.

Since I adjusted them I haven't been flashed at all unless I leave them on driving through a downtown area. The cool thing about them is the simple thumb adjustment for vertical beam location. It makes it a snap to adjust them when you switch between a loaded bike and an unloaded bike.

The Fuego's are 10 times brighter than any OEM HID light seen on cars. Use at your own discretion. For me they are the best thing I did to improve the enjoyment/safety of my morning (dark) commute but these roads have a lot more deer than cars.

The HID's output is equivilent to a 250w halogen bulb with the draw of a 35w.

Let there be light!!

Fuego on an f650gs?

My lil GS does not put out much power...so I can probably only run one of these things...and even then I probably can't run one of these, a heated vest, and a GPS...

Anyone have one (or two) on an F650GS?

I am scared to death riding in the dark. Even with a "brighter" sylvania h4 bulb installed, it seems like I can't see more than a few feet down the road...

gotta find a solution...this might be it...

Yeah sure......
This is a normal HID bulb in a fance housing. Ths light output is not better then from any Hella or similair high quality reflextors.

All HID systems have about the same draw. The filament draws 35W and with some losses in the ballast the total draw is usually about 42w. High quality Hella balasts usally have a tad smaller draw then the china copies....

Your F650 should be fine with at least one bulb. Depending on what other electric gear you have you may or may not be able to run two at the same time.

One local rider with an F650 ran with two 55w driving lights, each with a seperate switch so that if he put his heated gear on he could turn one off to conserve power. I believe he just switched to HID's so that he can always run them both.

The best way to tell if you can do it is to calculate how much available power you have.

Here's a link to a tech article to calculate how much power you have available for accessories on your motorcycle.

Basically, the first thing you'll need to know is the charging output for your bike. The numbers I post below are from the MOA forum and I haven't verified them so don't take them as gospel .

F650 Classic: Have a 280 Watt, 20 amp charging system.
F650GS/Dakar: Have a 400 Watt Charging System.
F650's w/ ABS: Have a 580W

Draws on the system:
30w for CDI
65w for headlight on high beam
10w for instrument panel
5w or less for the taillight
180w for ABS [would this only activate when the ABS was required to pulsate?]
??? for heated grips

Items you might add:
70w for Fuego HID's
77w for heated jacket liner [with Gerbing controller]

So, in theory if you have a Dakar w/o ABS you would have 400-30-65-10-5=290. Add in a heated liner would bring you down to 213 available which would leave you room for a set of HID's. If you have heated grips you'll have to see what the draw of them is on high and subtract that from 290 before subtracting for the heated gear and lights.

If you have other farkles on the bike you'll have to figure in their draw before the lights also.

Hope that helps a little.
