I plugged my last rear tire. The plug leaked very slowly, so I finally replaced the tire about 6 months later.
You can have a patch put on the inside, which is supposed to be more reliable, but I have never had a plug come out. |

I would prefer a patch on the inside
But the labor for the rear on a GW is up there Found a thread in Beasts discussing plugging Nothing really negative posted there Just wondering what you guys had experienced in the past |

I have not had good luck with plugs on bike's rear tires, I would be on the safe side and get it replaced, it will be cheaper in the long run than a tow bill and any other costs if damage happens. |

I would patch the tire before plugging it. Never had a flat on my bikes, but with my truck(s) I ended up patching them as plugs eventually come out or start leaking.. YMMV

the process of reaming a hole for a plug tends to damage tire carcass causing the possibility of separation. Patch it or replace it.

Replace it or you will worry about it.

When I did my trip in 2010 where I towed the bike behind the ST1300, I got a nail in my rear tire (which was almost new) right before I left.
I ended up plugging it and totally abusing it, all the way down to the metal, without it being an issue. I would (and did) make sure I had extra plugs and a pump with me at all times though... See Linky: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...2&postcount=13

Could do it on a bike and save a Helluva lot of gas, but her back has decided it doesn't like riding pillion any more. (Something that came up on a twisty road in GA on the Ducati Monster one day). So the luxury of the Jeep is the only option.
