I would prefer a patch on the inside

But the labor for the rear on a GW is up there

Found a thread in Beasts discussing plugging

Nothing really negative posted there

Just wondering what you guys had experienced in the past

I have not had good luck with plugs on bike's rear tires, I would be on the safe side and get it replaced, it will be cheaper in the long run than a tow bill and any other costs if damage happens.

I would patch the tire before plugging it. Never had a flat on my bikes, but with my truck(s) I ended up patching them as plugs eventually come out or start leaking.. YMMV

the process of reaming a hole for a plug tends to damage tire carcass causing the possibility of separation. Patch it or replace it.

I agree with this totally. You should replace it. But I keep a close eye on my tires and feel confident running around locally with a plugged one. I would not get on the hwy and run all day at high speeds on one. I was putting air in my plugged rear twice a week and looking for signs of oncoming separation every day.

When I did my trip in 2010 where I towed the bike behind the ST1300, I got a nail in my rear tire (which was almost new) right before I left.

I ended up plugging it and totally abusing it, all the way down to the metal, without it being an issue.

I would (and did) make sure I had extra plugs and a pump with me at all times though...

Anyway...

What are y'all's thoughts on plugging motorcycle tires?

Wayne here at Citrus Cycle thinks I should replace it

Dayum! I hated to hear that

Drive over to Belleview today

Have instructions from this guy I'm supposed to meet

Turn north on 441 and I'll meet you at the "police station"

Get there five minutes early and wait for an hour

Finally get his wife on the phone and get directions to the actual place where we would be going

Find out it's not the "police station"

It's the freakin' Sheriff's substation two miles north of town

WTF!

HoJo and I will be there from the 15th-18th this year

This way it won't coincide with Treeman's event

Not going to be any big blowout due to my status with my dad

Got to get my cousin to stay with him while I'm gone

My sched is really day to day nowadays
I got Beth interested again - IF it ain't too cold; IF it ain't too hot; IF it ain't gonna be raining (she grew up on camping vacations with her family and was dumb enough to go camp with me on a couple of track day events. She knows the pitfalls). If it looks good that weekend, we may pull up in the Jeep - it seems to be running OK now, although I have plenty of time to fuck it up again between now and then.

Could do it on a bike and save a Helluva lot of gas, but her back has decided it doesn't like riding pillion any more. (Something that came up on a twisty road in GA on the Ducati Monster one day). So the luxury of the Jeep is the only option.

Setting up camp

Just curious about what your thoughts are about setting up camp. Is it better to get to the destination before dark, set up camp and relax? Just wing it and the hell with time? We're trying to decide how to manage the miles per day or every 3 days.
