Looks more like a 500cc lawnmower engine to me. The long inlet tract is quite common on lawnmower and stationary engines.

Well, the only reason I was saying that is because I remember the M20 and M21's having round heads, not squared like this one.

I was thinking Rudge or Excelsior, but I am still seeing details that don't line up with either one.

That's actually an F-head. Overhead valve intake, side exhaust. It looks Brit to me, has a Pilgrim type oil pump.

Yes, post-'72 SS350 is my guess. '72 and before did not have the frame downtubes. That cute little engine just hung in the breeze.

Okay, Looks like a interwar IOE military (right hand shift.) The magneto looks bosch, but the carburettor looks to be an Amal with a satellite float bowl. 1930 Triumph T500
