Thanks Don!

I hadn't been able to catch a copy of the movie at my local libraries yet, so I was glued to the TV set last night. My daughter, who had already watched it at school this year watched it again with me.

After our great ride thru that area in 2007, it got me wanting to get back up there again.

Great report

This is one of my favorite movies and this type of trip is exactly what drew me into motorcycling in the first place.
I had though almost all of Coalwood was gone. Now I want to go there too.
Thanks for sharing this, I think the next trip out that way may now have a little detour.

Really, Really nice ride report. Let's us nuubs know how it's supposed to be done! A lot of stuff from my backyard! I was in Coalwood for a tag yesterday... and we built a new school in front of the Old Big Creek Owl's school in War. Just a great report!

Hmmm, I guess I have some route planning to do before the Laurel Forks campout this fall. I was planning on doing a day of (mostly) paved twisties down that direction, but without any specific target. Now I have one.

I thought it was funny that at one point in the movie they were going to the movies (I think it was supposed to be Indianapolis) - they used the old Tennessee theater in downtown Knoxville and "turned off" the T - the sign in the movie said ennessee theater. They also used the old Jacobs building on the Tennessee fairgrounds as the location for the science fair in the movie.

Thumb HBN's ride to Coalwood on Independence Day Weekend

As a big BUMP, this RR inspired me to visit Coalwood myself. I did enjoy taking many photos this past weekend with my HTC Incredible Phone, most of which came out darn okay I'd say.

Enjoy the views here in the summer time

DeBandi -

You never cease to completely amaze me! This is such a fabulous report! Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into making it - I think one of the best parts of your RR's are how much enjoyment and passion you convey through them - truly inspiring!

Mucho thanks to Brown Dog to linking me to this report!

I am headed up to WV next week (alone) to meet a friend in Summersville to ride for a few days - you'd better believe I am going to incorporate some of the towns in your RR on my way up!

Blessings!

The Falcon 9 rocket by SpaceX launched successfully Wednesday morning. The Falcon 9 is set to take up a key chore of the retiring space shuttle: supply the International Space Station.

One vision for the future of spaceflight in the United States soared into the skies over Cape Canaveral this morning with the launch of Falcon 9, the two-stage, privately designed rocket tabbed to pick up many of the soon-to-be extinct space shuttles' chores.

The rocket lofted SpaceX's Dragon capsule, which could carry cargo and eventually crews to and from the International Space Station under NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation System (COTS) program.

The launch marked the first of at least two demonstration flights SpaceX must perform to show it is capable of fulfilling its $1.6 billion contract for 12 resupply flights to the space station once the shuttles retire next year.

The shift to commercial carriers for space-station-related missions could get very interesting very quickly.
