Looking for a New Thumper
OK, I have owned a KTM 950Adv, and both 640E and 640Adv models. I sold the 950 after 3 years and 35000 miles as I wanted something with better road manners. I sold the 640Adv because I was using the 950 more off road. I sold the enduro model when I bought the 950. I have been looking at the 950SE but it is too big.
Presently, I ride a new Tiger for pavement and have a KLR for messing around off pavement. I am pleasantly surprised at how good the KLR is but I would like something with just a bit more power. Now the KTM's have great suspension and good power but also great vibrations. I have ridden the 690SM and love the new engine/6speed combo so I may wait for a 690E next spring but I am also wondering at the BMW X bikes or the Husky 610 and would like comments from present owners. I am especially interested in the Husky and wondering if dealerships will increase now that they have been acquired by BMW. Now if I could find one bike which does everything, I would sell both the Tiger and KLR. I don't think just owning one bike is possible for the types of riding I like -long tours and local dual sport jaunts with a possible trip to TDF (initial reason for acquiring a 10 year old KLR). |

The husky is one of the better bikes you listed, but getting parts in 4 or 5 years can be iffy. ATK and Husaberg fall under the same fate but worse. It sounds like you need the 690 enduro. I don't find the older LC4's to be to bad for vibrations, but that's just me.
You understand that one bike isn't going to be good at everything, but I thing the 610 Husky or 690 KTM enduros are as close as you can get |
