It's going to be fun to see how the new classes shake out over the season. I'm sure we'll see similar overall standings, but having some "Lites" class bikes in the mix will be a cool thing.

Medium Motorcycle Classifications

There is a fine line between stock and modified and it's certainly no advantage one way or another.

As we have seen clearly in Rally Moto, it is not about the bike but rather the rider.

Look at Mark Ely's fantastic ride on the first Sandblast ridden with an aged Honda 600r. He clearly set the pace and showed up many high priced machines to take the overall win.

We' also witnessed a Suzuki DR400 up at BRS spank a boat load of very well prepared machines. John road the wheels off that bike and always puts on a great show. He's also a really nice guy to boot!!

We've seen rally prepared bikes not take top honors as well.

I would prefer to see just a "Motorcycle Medium" only class and drop the stock and modified as it just makes for more arguments and unnecessary issues.

I'm not the one making the call so I'll just show up and ride in the class that I'm placed in and hopefully finish.

Either way, don't take this racing so seriously folks! The value of an "attat boy" is about $1

Laugh Started something did I?

A few days ago I emailed Anders with some questions...he answered them all very clearly except one: When I asked to confirm my hunch that I should register as a modified bike since my aftermarket Ohlins seems to be clearly dispositioned that way in the regs, he said something like "the guys in the Sandblast forum will help you answer that one"...

Very clever way to get the chatter rolling Anders...

Seriously, someone said it right, the rookie here is just trying to figure out where to register correctly the first time. I personally don't care if I race against a Dakar bike or a stock drz200. It's not gonna matter in my case, but I can understand why it might for other competitors.

I understand the need to be exact in the regs and specs.

Now...off to find some black paint to disguise this thing... ...gotta get that sticker off the swingarm too...

I keed I keed

I'm telling ya, skip the paint, set a six pack on the seat through tech, and have fun. Doug will not be shy about which class you will run as "political correctness" is not a concept to him. Gotta love the old school guys!
On Anders getting the conversation rolling, he IS a low key PT Barnum although I can't get him to admit it! Let's get a bounty up on his hat for this event.

Don't worry about what class you put on your entry. It's not a tattoo. Doug will just put you in the correct class at tech when he sees your bike.

As an example, Trying to be honest at Rally Tn. last year I applied as a "Mod. King" even though my mod was very minor. Doug looked at my bike and put me back in "Stock" without me asking.

Some may be coming form other series where scrutineering is a nightmare. I used to run SCCA Pro Rally and had a tech make me hack saw out an extra roll bar brace I had installed for saftey reasons only, because it wasn't in the rule book.

This you will find is a very friendly common sence organization.

its funny that you say this....I considered bringing my Honda CT90 for Black River....Only I sold it. It would be pretty funny to have a CT70 class....they make superchargers for those you know.

I'd run this class. Apparently there are 110cc conversion kits out there which might help in the sand. ;)

take a look at www.dratv.com they have a 125cc engine kit that can be boosted to 140cc or so. There was a site called PowerUSA or similar that sold dual carb and supercharger kits.
