Cool2 TW200 - Let the Farkles Begin!

This weekend I am going to pick up my recently purchased 2001 Yamaha TW200. It has only 210 miles on it [her?] and is practically new. I cannot wait to put it to use around these Shenandoah trails in the mountains and forests.

I have done some reading on the TW200 forum and have already ordered a good deal of items. Listed below are the items I have purchased and the ones I plan to buy sooner than later. Please chime in if anyone have any more suggestions to add to my lists.

I am looking into lightweight side mounted panniers. I was thinking ammo can style but am not proficient at welding. Any ideas to mod to the cycle rack?

All that comes to mind is these soft mounted panniers

I don't have them--too pricey, just the rack on my KLR-250.
They make a front rack for the TW. Me likey.

Seems like most go with the CycleRack .... but Turbo City is another option.

I like the cyclerack, have both front and rear on our '08 TW200, the little bike is an very compliant mule.

If you haven't seen it already, I would also take a look at Jimbo's cafeshielf on the tw200 forum. It is a great addition for trail rides when you want some wind break on the road parts we end up suffering through between the dirt areas.

The TW is more enjoyable to ride than my DR650 on the road up to 50mph, mainly due to the cafe shield addition, but also the softer seat compared to the factory DR's saddle.

The front cyclecrack on our TW is a little impractical for big things since it blocks the headlight out, but it will hold a small hard case about the size of a laptop or pistol case. (I transport my handguns on the front rack, less concern of them falling off the back rack somehow, Kimber's aren't cheap)

I have one, and my buddy has a pair for him and his wife. These are so silly fun. You will want to ride it more than your other bikes.

I would gues it woulld be obvious (at least to you guys, thus it's ME asking) but am I correct to assume you don't put much weight in the front rack?

seems it would really mess with handling, up there.

I like the look of the TW, reminds me of those bikes always in the magazines, with two wheel drive. You know, the ones with the big honkin sprocket on the front.

One more, does the TW handle sluggish at all, with the big front tire? I'm not a moto crosser by any stretch of the mind, but a trail rider.

That's true. I put a front rack on mine with the intention of using it to carry a first aid kit or maps, etc. On a hard bump the rack will hit the fender and also, you don't want to be covering the headlight.

I was told that the front Cyclerack is for tying a big rock to when carrying something heavy on the rear rack (deer parts) to help keep the front end down. These racks (for the TW) were originally intended for hunting purposes. I don't use the front because it does hit the front fender when hitting a big bump or setting down a wheelie.

About 500 miles on it so far. Getting the valves adjusted next week because I don't have time/daylight with work till 5 everyday. I have front and rear cycle racks loaded on there and a whole new handlebar/barkbuster/lever setup I need to install this weekend.

It is easy off road and I can back it up UPHILL if I need to or go down a wrong trail. Can't do that with a KLR unless you have help.

Great bike for someone to learn on too.

I am looking at a way to mount a headlight to the front of the cycle rack. I could then put a sleeping roll and a PVC tube for first aid kit and rain gear. Looking into round headlights and scooter headlights that I could rig up.
