After getting bruced by skippii on 2nd mountain today we headed to coal road and then fs 162. I agree with skippii that second mountain road IS rocky, but you need to ride 162 to see some rocks. That road has gotten bad.

This was such a great ride, you want to stop and take pictures every 100 yards or so. The laural is blooming everywhere, awsome.

I didn't take pictures of the rockiest places but trust me, there are some pucker sections.

This Weekend

Anyone interested in riding Sunday? I was thinking of riding maybe in the morning for 2-3 hours if the weather looks good.

There is a group out of Roanoke riding to Hatton Ferry, VA. They should arrive around 1 or so. I plan on meeting them there to ride the ferry before it is closed by VDOT.

Too far for me to ride Mike, just looking for a short ride with no excitement. I rode to Grafton, WV on Route 50 the Friday before Memorial day and spent over half the ride trying to keep up with two other riders. I consider myself a fairly fast rider but these guys put the hammer down for the whole trip. If you have not done so 50 west of Romney, WV is a good ride. For where you are located I recommend 259 to 55, 55 to 28 and 28 to 50.

Is the ferry ride gonna be on all paved roads? I may come and join y'all for that, but need to decide on which bike to take.

First slaying today.

I was riding down Peak Mountain Rd on my way to the tag, and see something small bolt out into the road. No idea what it was, not time to react even a little bit before it slammed into my boot.

I turned around, and saw a little brown lump lying in the road.

Pulled off to check it out...it was a bird. Not sure which kind. It was brown, about the same size as a cardinal. It was very dead, and appeared to have a broken neck.

I moved it out of the road and onto the shoulder.

I resisted the urge to find take it with me and use as a tag cache.
