Yes I have worked with tanned deer skins..
I also tried to taning my own skins.. Till all the deer ticks made it to icky to work on... That was in PA.Many years ago .. I can't stand ticks..Or maggots.. and Leaches..
Any other bug is ok...

Might I suggest Moose hide .. Much tougher and stronger...
Or Buffalo ...
Look for a hide in a 1.5 - 3 0z max..
I think any thing thinner will NOT wear well as a saddle cover...

Cool thanks for the advice! Ebay has tons for sale in all kinds of sizes. We are going for a rustic sorta look in a darker cognac color.

Damn finally about to get around to starting the ride report. Sure feels a lot like "homework" when you don't do it immediately after the ride. Also really wishing I had kept a journal...makes things a lot easier.

Well here we go...

Anyone got a few laying around I could buy?
Given your new look and nickname shouldn't you be using an Abominable Snowman hide

Hey Cats. My father in law talked a little bit tonight about picking up a cheap bike to keep at the cabin and run up through the forest roads occasionally. I'm thinking a little XT or KLX or something there. It's gotta be street legal, but certainly no bigger than a DR Z. We've got some kids getting big enough to ride and it should stay a small (ish) bike. I'm looking around on Craigslist and the flea market here, but does anybody have any super deals they know of? It's got to be a reasonable price since the bike will only get seasonal use and that will only be on weekends. Right now, H14's old XT is the best I've found at $1,800. Anything better out there? Just probing. . . Thanks.

Try using search tempest which can comb the regional craigslist in one search.

That XT is the best street legal deal I've seen around lately, unless you hear different from Kevin.

I love a KLX but it's tall for beginners...

The XT (H14s old bike) Brenda was looking at is very clean. Nice kid just getting outta bikes. If you should go test ride it just be aware that it does need a brake light bulb.

Kinda funny, he says his parents think bikes are dangerous and offered to buy him a gun if he gets rid of it
