Is anybody going to try the 2014 GS Trophy challenge in September? My off-roading skills are not near the level to win this but I figure for the $200 fee, it will be a lot of fun. I'd be interested in sharing a room if anybody is going? Dates are September 20-22 in South Carolina.

Apparently that rimlock is made of lead or something haha.

Yeah, just a single heavy rimlock. Apparently it's so heavy that most riders and mechanics can't be bothered to balance it, though the ones that do say it makes a big difference.

I've never run a rim lock and don't ever see the necessity myself but I believe I've heard of running two, one opposite the other to help balance the tire? I can't imagine running one without some kind of balancing done. Wouldn't the tire be so out of balance as to make the bike un-ridable?

It's always great to see other adventure riders. ...
I've been buying at Mongers for about 20 years now & have an account. Never seen a motorcycle there. It's a great place and the people are cool. JM played soccer with my son; they made that handy ball complex near Mt. Crawford. We are fortunate to have them in the community. I'll ask for you next time I'm there. I can haul a pretty good amount of stuff on my street bike but I probably won't try using it to get building supplies.

Oh, I'm sure it's been settled as I'm a few pages back, but that hungry Strom now belongs to Dave (valongbeard).

PS: Didn't you realize that once you post in this forum, you become a de-facto cat herder? That's what failing to read the fine print gets you.

Rolling your own - that earns an "A" for initiative! When faced with similar circumstances, I took the items of required weight to the motorcycle dealer and asked what they had for balancing weights. Luckily, they produced sizeable lead weights that simply clamp onto the spokes.

I know... what fun is there in that?

Oh well,
