the mods and swaps make the Versys a tall rangy bike, suitable for some, not for others. fun, capable, reliable, and proven.

the current bike is for sale if ya want one and don't have the time or resources to build it.

Versys seems pretty nice but a 17" front isn't really what I want. JDRocks bike is very cool though lots of work to get there. Also, not a lot of room to the pegs but I believe a peg lowering kit is made for them.
I keep wondering when the Japanese will have to upgrade the DR's, KLR's, XR's to keep the feds happy. The factory needle that came out of my KLR in order to lean it out looked nothing like a normal carb needle. Ran like crap until I put in the KLX needle/rejetted it IMHO. Noise and emission regs will eventually kill any aircooled engine and even the KLR will certainly get fuel injected or replaced. XT's are injected now, a bandaid buying time, surprised the larger XR/DR engines didn't get it first. Maybe since Yamaha has abandoned the mid displacement dual sport market they just felt compelled to do something to the XT? Who knows, but it sure seems like there's bound to be a change sometime soon.
I mentioned the CB500X because it looks like such a nice, compact, modern design. How kickass would it be to have that powerplant as a new XR? Even being smaller displacement would have more power and be smoother. Yeah, I know - those carbed/aircooled engines where the fuel gets to the carb by gravity is appealing in simplicity and we've all had good times and reliable service from them. And I've had fuel injection absolutely ruin an otherwise decent bike (690E, the absolute worst f'in bike I've ever owned). The times they are a changin' though.

Man, is there something in the water today?
So... a light(ish) but tall bike... Sounds like an XR650L to me. Pretty awesome bike.

Yeah, say it... Speak your mind and don't hold anything back!
