Mtnflow, thanks for sending out the recon! OnO, thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll have a few options then.

Do you care to talk about it? What's going wrong?

i started with the rear tire on me '12 wee. got it off (finally) and then attempted for 3 hours to mount the new Anakee 3. just spoons, spoons and mount bar, hammer, broken face, punching, plenty of RuGlide.. so i was all like f this, i'll get at it again tomorrow. so i come back yesterday and i'm all like, f it, i'll just do the "zip tie" method. so i go to try to remove my half-mounted rear tire and after attempting for 45 minutes i gave up and went to bed. i just need to watch someone else do it using the tools i have. only issue is i have a 5 hour one-way trip that i'm leaving on friday and have extremely limited time. so i pulled both wheels off and am going to pay the $25 per to get them done at valley cycle today so i can just get the bike back on the road.

i haven't given up yet, but i have given up on this set. i'll try again in another 15k miles. i need to get a spare wheel/tire to practice on..

oh yeah, i also need some black spray paint..

edit: new Anakee 3, bottom bead went on OK. top bead i can only get about 3/4 of the way on and that's it. i keep lining it up the "other side" in the valley, but it just isn't going.

Pisser. I've assisted other ADV'ers who have changed 3 sets of tires for me, but I've not yet done it solo. It's always gone very smoothly. I'm sorry, but I'm probably not much help to you.

Good call to pay the price to get the bike back on the road. Live to try again. Best of luck and safe travels on your upcoming trip.

only the morning i'm leaving! hahaa. Thanks for the help, guys. i know i'm probably making life harder than it should be. i just need to see in person. i've watched TONS of vids, but until you're hands on, it really doesn't matter.

from what i've read, i'm not the only person who has had a little trouble with the A3's. supposedly they have a pretty stiff sidewall. probably not the best tire to "learn" on.

Make sure the other side of the tire hasn't seated. You need it to be deep in the groove all the way around so it doesn't ride up and make it impossible to spoon the wall down. Taking little bites around the rim help too.

Warm tire, lube, three spoons, little bites, & patience. You can cut up a quart oil bottle to use as rim protectors.

Some tires are just a PITA. I'm no pro but I get along with most tires changes pretty well, However installing a 140/18 Heidenau K60 Scout on the rear of my kTM had me cussing a bit a couple of weeks ago.

Some of the hardest I've put on are 10" Ruckus tires...then again, the last go around I had 4 tires, one of them took 35 min to seat the bead, the others took 15 min total for all three Not all tires are created equal...
