Mike, you make Hone Quarry look magical! It's definitely a cool place, but being so close to home... well, you know. Too bad about the timing corresponding to me being at an out of town wedding. And glad the weather was nice for you.

Dan, some mushrooms are on high demand around here. If it's the same there, it might pay to learn to recognize the valuable ones.

DLJocky (Shannon) was hit by a deer on his morning commute earlier this week and is in ICU. See recent posts on the Richmond and Hampton Roads threads. B.E.Coyote is collecting donations to provide his family. Some of you may not have met Shannon personally, but this could happen to any of us so I figured I'd help get the word out for those who don't happen to follow those threads.

If you care to donate:

brmalsch at verizon dot net

If you are familiar with pay pal, a gift is the way to go. Otherwise Pay Pal eats 3% of the contribution.

Thanks

A somber reminder of how much our fun and economical transportation is indeed dangerous. My positive energy going out to our fellow rider and his family.
Oh and fuck that dear!

Thanks to ddlewis for posting the fb on Shannon. I PMed B.E. Coyote and a VISA gift card sounds like the best idea, then they can use it anywhere. I plan to get a card so if anyone wants to PM or email me messages I'll put them together to go with the card. I called the hospital and you can also send to their address or send a Web Wish. Here is the link and the address.

Shannon Update

I thought I posted this here yesterday after I visited Shannon. My apologies I must not have hit the submit reply. Yesterday I visited Shannon. Lots of family there supporting him and his wife. They appreciate the prayers. He is sleeping on his own. He wakes some and talks a little. The family would like visitors to hold off until he is fully awake. He is sleeping and breathing well. The neck brace was taken off this morning. His left knee was cut open but nothing broken there. Three staples holding it shut. The right knee is bruised. He broke three ribs on one side and two on the other. He got a concussion from hitting the ground.

I saw some pictures. His helmet has scrapes on the left side. They cut his jacket and pants off. He was on the DR. The left handlebar and bark buster was bent. The hinge on the left top load pelican case was scraped just about off. Other than that maybe the left mirror is scraped.

They believe and it looks like the deer hit him on the right side knocking him down. He is improving. It will take some time. They hope they get him sitting up some today.

Mike

Shannon Update

I saw Shannon this evening. The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support. B.E.Coyote transferred the money raised to me and I am in the process of transferring it to Shanon and his wife. First time for me doing this so it will take a couple of business. This will save the fees if we had gotten a VISA card with all the fine print.

Shannon is improving but has a long way to go. They are giving him semi-solid food and he is taking water and juice. He talks a little and recognized me. His speech is slow but not ready for visitors. The pain medication, I guess the strong stuff, is wearing off so he feels some of the pain. They x-rayed his right shoulder and found he broke his shoulder bone (clavicle). He can raise his fore arms. Riverside is a nice hospital. His wife will be posting updates on Facebook. Keep the prayers coming.

Also posted in Hampton Roads.
