I have a DR650 and it is great. I wanted something more powerful and smoother to add to my stable. Inexpensive was key. All my research led to the Triumph Tiger 2001-2006.
Nice examples can be found for about $3000. They are known as "Girlies" because the decals on front look like eyelashes.

I came very close to pulling the trigger, but realized that I really don't need one with my DR available for the limited pavement trips I actually make.

Keep what you have and buy a bargain Tiger.

AB,
The lift is actually pretty solid. Fully extended it is 18" tall. I didn't want it any wider or else it would stick out from under the table. It has little padded feet on all-thread rod to set down against the floor. Those really help stabilize it.

I would love to, but I ain't got room for 2 bikes.

Thanks for the tip, though. I'll do some research on the Tiger (finally, I know why it's called a Girlie). It seems like a lot of bike for $3k!

Jax - thanks for the feedback. I'm kinda loath to spend $800 on an exhaust (seems like the going rate for my bike). Eh maybe it's time I stop throwing money at it, but that'll never happen.

H14 - thanks for the invite! I definitely have it in mind. I'm in travel limbo so far that weekend (potential family stuff), but when it all becomes certain, I'll let you know.

Here's a pic of the eye make-up:

they are out there
Triumph Tiger 900 - $2950 (Johnson city)

a bit of a travel
http://binghamton.craigslist.org/mcy/4309360699.html

but with the money you'd save over an F800, you could buy a nice storage shed and keep both.

Good catch! I appropriated his name for my evil ADV devices. Little does he know... I used to listen to a lot of Einsturzende back in the day.

If only. My condo association would throw a fit. I need a real house. But let me work on getting a bike first

Hey Blixa. I thought of your (our) dilemma as I read this article. It seems to fit well with the comments posted earlier. Good luck in your quest.

I can lead a ride from the Front Royal area if anyone is interested. I'll take the scenic route.

This is a benefit dinner for the Kim family, owners of the Dry River Store near H14 & Campcook's place. More info here, here, here, and here.

H14 & Campcook are letting us camp at their place Saturday night.

Nice response to this senseless tragedy. Is this something we can just show up for if we manage to be able to make it at the last minute, or is it necessary to reserve in advance?

They want to sell the tickets in advance to have an idea how much food to plan for. I told them that would be tough with our group, being catherders and all. I told her just to figure 20-30 people in our group and I would let her know if that number changed by much. If you decide to go just tell them you are with the motorcycle ride to eat group.

Thanks Kevin! Makes sense. Will do.

There's a chance of making it then but it's slim so I can't commit, yet if it works out that I can, I'd like to make it. More to show support and see some of y'all - I don't eat much spaghetti or baked goods. In any case, blessings!
