Holy crap, 11 years! That's pretty excessive IMO for a simple 20mph over ticket.

Maybe he will be willing to work with you.

Hey!

Someone left what turned out to be "3" soft coolers (there were two stuffed inside one) on the picnic table in site 7 - next to my truck.

I was under the impression once the officer writes the ticket, it's up to the judge after that.

Get a lawyer local to where you got tagged. He/she will know who to talk to to get the charge reduced.

Prosecuting Attorneys(PA) will usually follow the recommendation of the arresting officer as long as there are no extenuating circumstances. I used this strategy to get my Mothers reckless driving ticket reduced to improper. She had an accident back in December. I talked to the officer, he was OK with reducing the ticket as long as the PA is OK with it. RThe day of Court the officer spike with the PA and all was good! I have heard of others using this strategy and succeeding. Of course we are talking an 83 yo female in an old Toyota PU verses a 20 something(?) male on a motorcycle.

I would call him and politely ask if there is any way he would consider reducing the ticket to a lower offense. He may say yes and work with you...or he may say no. It doesn't hurt to ask. I wouldn't get into the details of why he wrote the ticket with him, in case he won't budge and you still need to get a lawyer.

If for some reason it would come up in court that you spoke to the officer trying to get the ticket reduced, just tell the truth... you wanted to save on lawyer fees as you don't have much money and are trying to buy(did buy?) a house. I seriously doubt that would come up though.
