And they only applied to Virginia residents and the money was collected by the country wherein the infraction took place. The county keeps the basic fine now Mica, only a portion goes to Richmond.

If you don't think you'll get away with it, you won't.
Given that I'm not in danger of having my license suspended, I'm having a hard time justifying why I'd spend the money on a lawyer.
I don't have any evidence to bring. If I wasn't going 79mph, I was going pretty close to it.

I think the cop already though he was being nice as he said he thought I was going 95mph. while he was behind me. I wasn't - not even close to that. But if he really thinks that he probably thinks he's already cut me a break. More likely he was just trying to scare me or something.

Yep, doubt a lawyer will help. Also doubt they'll charge you with reckless if you utilize my prior advice. BTDT.

95? What were you riding?

I would definitely get your speedo checked, you may be able to get it dropped, or at least reduced.

The town limits have been expanded since then to include a portion of 66.

My speedometer matches both my gps units. It's accurate.

What worked for me... An Arlington PoPo charged me with running a standing red, which amounts to a reckless. I obtained a letter from my insurance company that stated my rates had never been raised for accidents nor infractions. I also purchased a copy of my driving record from the service friendly VADMV. My record was perfect. I told the judge my side of the story, distracted by a pretty lady on the side walk, really short yellow etc... Then went on to say that I'd be willing to plead guilty if the judge would see fit to suspend sentence for five years. The officer in question actually busted out laughing. The judge did not like that and gave the officer a very dirty look. Then turned back to me and said he couldn't do that, but would reduce the infraction to failure to obey a traffic "sign". He issued no monetary fine and asked me to pay court costs only. He even thanked me for being prepared and presenting my side of the situation with documents that were factual representations of my driving habits. That was in summer 2001. I've not had a ticket since and before then hadn't even been pulled over since 1978.
