I have lifetime map updates, so usually getting a new map a few times a year. Currently on City Navigator North America NT 2014.4 It does have limits. It won't know about gated roads, and I have had the errant road shown as tarmac where it was dirt.

This is a handy reference for George Washington Forest & gates

Update time aging, just got out of Mongolia, after riding 800miles of dirt and sand on the GS. No drops, but the riding would have been much more enjoyable if I hadn't blown up my new rear shock before even hitting the dirt. Pogo stick on the back end sucks on dirt, even scarier on the road while the tire skips on every little bump. Sitting in Russia now, got a replacement shock supposed to meet me a thousand miles up the road, hopefully. Life is good, filled bike with some total crap gas in Russia, hope to burn through a lot of it tomorrow and get something better in, knock knock,,, and its no joke. Catch you cat headers later. The bike just turned 110,000 miles the other day.

So...

I finally got the DR running again a few months ago and have been getting ready for a four week cross country trip. I'll be heading out solo this weekend and making a somewhat counterclockwise loop hitting the Black Hills, Yellowstone, the PCH, some of the parks in Utah, the Rockies in Colorado, maybe down to Texas and then back home.

Anyway, I've been avoiding this place since it has sucked up so much of my time before I didn't want to go down that path again and my willpower is close to nonexistent I've missed you guys and I'll have to make it out to something soon.

I got a Spot (mostly to keep my mother from going completely crazy with worry) so if you want to follow along, here's the link. I'll try to post something once in a while, but I'm not taking a computer so don't count on it.

I hope everyone's doing well!

Just wanted to hit this up again. I got a few tracks from littlelionmonster. Thanks again. Willing to share if anyone is interested.

I HATE BaseCamp. I find that this site lets me edit routes by drag and drop on google maps, then save them as GPX files.

Also - anybody planning any trips this weekend that involve camping and riding and drinking and campfires and bullshitting?

Thanks I will check that out. I use Google maps to confirm and compare my maps on Basecamp. And I feel your pain with BC.
I find quite often that when I sit down to map something out. I use the Nat Geo trails illustrated maps, BC, Google maps and forest service maps. Google often does not have the small back forest roads or they are incomplete not connecting.
