No buy this! http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=560612 One of the cats needs to own one of these and should do everything you want...

Oh wait this ain't no $3000 bike...oh well.

Get a Versys and be done with it can't go wrong if you can get over the fugly look of it,just get a green one. Are they as cheap as a used Ninja like the deal you found? Maybe not...

I guess he didn't like the test ride on your bike HBN.

Anyone seen this new one? Intriguing...but not for USA just yet.

Ummm.....looks amazing, but the price tag is a little much for my budget. Have I mentioned that I'm on a budget here!

As far as the Versys is concerned, I would prefer it over the Ninja since it would require a little less moding, and it has a bigger gas tank. However, all the ones I've seen so far have been a minimum of $1k more! And for the record, I actually LIKE the look of the Versys! Then again, I also used to own a KLR!

As far as the V-strom is concerned, it's a very capable bike, and I thank Mike for the opportunity to test his out. But I've been wanting a sport bike for several years now, and I see this as an opportunity to fill this void while still being able to reallize my Alaska dream trip.

Seriously, I think the suspension is better on the Versys and pm JD but I think he might have used a Versys front end on his.

Either way, sounds like a good price...

(Only thing as fun as buying a bike is talking somebody else into buying one... )
Sounds good! Let me know if you find a pair for a good price and I'll do the same!

And I agree, talking other people into buying a bike is always so much fun!

Once again, I agree, but at this price it's hard to resist.

I was about to ask if you'd ever ridden a real I4 sport bike, but then I remembered you rode my CBR on a ride once.

My opinion--you want a sport bike, get a sport bike. The 650 Ninja is probably the least sporty bike I'd recommend--it's more of a sport tourer than anything else, with the twin engine and non-clipon handlebars. If you get something else, you'll probably be wanting a real crotchrocket after a while anyway.
Don't get a Ducati or anything, because you'll get carpel tunnel after 2 days of riding, but there are plenty of sportbikes that would be excellent for the type of riding you have planned. My recommendations would be the Honda VFR Interceptor and the Kawasaki ZZR600. Both are comfortable for long distances, will handle dirt roads just fine, have good aftermarket support (hard bags, etc) and will give you all the thrill of a supersport race replica without any of the drawbacks. You'd pretty much have to be at least an amatuer racer to get a serious benefit from a new ZX6 or R6 over the ZZR or VFR.

There are also a lot of people who would say the ZX-14 is a perfect bike for you...people love to tour on those, although their population is overshadowed by the drag race and poser crowd. Out of your budget, too, most likely.

Gen 1's are hard to beat, but I may be a little bias.

Are we actually talking about motorcycles in here?

Get the sporty bike if you're craveing one. And once you get bored of that you can eventually build a JDrocks-like machine out of it which would be way cool, so you get a 2fer bike experience out of one bike in the end.

Here's a nice tiger for not much over your budget, maybe you can haggle him down a bit.
http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=576079

But it seems like you wanna go the ninja route which is fine as long as you don't build a chopper out of it.

Hpy we were there where I said I'd be with Motovfr, and Gimmieslack. I couldn't tell you from all the ageing hippies in this town...

So were all the women dykes, is that why after a few beers they were not responding to my advances and just giving me go back to your buddies to talk about motorcycles and leave me alone looks ...I knew there must have been a very good reason.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the VFR's and have been looking for those as well, except they don't depreciate as much as the ninjas do. Once again, the almighty budget issue.

God knows you wouldn't see any aging hippies at a Skip Castro show...
And I wouldn't blend right in...

"A 5:30 Skip show is perfect because then nobody has to get babysitters and we can all be in bed by 9:30, as usual." I think I overheard Charlie Pastorfield say that once.

I did look for you guys, just not very hard.

XC, did you notice everybody has an opinion? Ride the damn thing and tell us what you think.
