Tajikistan, The road to the Pamirs

In Tajikistan, the roads became really bad. OTOH, the landscape became really spectacular.

From the capital Dushanbe, I took the 'road' south-east to the Afghan border. I rode along the Afghan border to Khorog, where the Pamir mountains start.

This, together with the KKH, was the greatest ride ever. I'll never forget the Afghan kids waving at me from across the river.

Karakoram Highway

This was the ride of my life. 5 days, 1200km from Kashgar, Xinjiang, China, across the Khunjerab Pass (the highest border crossing in the world @ 4.700m) to Islamabad, Pakistan.

The stunning Hunza Valley
Hunza river below, road on the mountainside
Glacier covered peaks @ 7000m

Paki-India border (Wagah)

Officially Pakistan and India are still at war. Wagah (between Lahore, Pakistan and Amritsar, India) is the only open border crossing. Paki and Indian nationalism climaxes here every evening when the flags are lowered and the border closes.
