I went up yesterday afternoon on the Vstrom; I just didn't have time to get home and get out the KLR.. Made it to the top of the gravel road around 3:45pm with no problem, but there was no way I was going to try getting up that last section (past the 'road closed' gate laying on the ground) to the top of the mtn.! Too much mud and too late in the day to get that thing stuck, especially by myself.. Not sure if I'll make it back this weekend on the KLR our not..

The FS gate is open this time of the year. I think it is officially closed in Jan and Feb. so this is a legal tag. You were very close if you made it to the gate. There is a great system of roads to explore right there.

If this doesn't get tagged by a dual sport today I can leave the keys in the Beta tomorrow for any road warrior that wants to come up here and claim it. The tag that is not the Beta.

Well, if my daughter doesn't make it to the finals in her soccer tournament tomorrow morning, I may be able to sneak up there on the DRZ in the afternoon. I'm out of town the next 2 weeks, so tags will be tough for me.
Hopefully someone will keep it moving.

Someone PLEASE go get this tag! I have figured out where it is, but it is too darn cold up here in Suches (below 30) and I don't have heated grips on my DRZ! SR

Got it.

Chestnut Knob, southern neighbor of Steeltrap.

I normally avoid established paths but the likelihood of seeing Betas in consecutive tags is low.

Sweet, a trials bike, right? I've never seen one in person or known anyone who had one.

I'm strictly an on road rider, myself.

So what were the names of the roads that were named after trees and rivers? I still would like to check the area out sometime, but I didnt know where that tag was.

Check out the updated Google map in my sig line and you'll see the last tag.
Zoom in to see the names of the roads.

DirtDabber,
Can you make sure I put it in the right spot on the map? Thanks.

Nice job Darnell! Let's see what you got next!

"Persimmon" Road off US Hwy 76

"Coleman River" Road

FS road 54

FS Road 54A (no sign)

FS Road 198 (no sign)

The Christmas song reference was to "Chestnuts" roasting by an open fire for Chestnut Mountain

Set the Google maps to terrain and move it a little bit to the peak of Chestnut Knob. The road does not show on Google maps but is available here.

http://www.fs.fed.us/conf/maps/mvum/...ooga-river.pdf

A spur off FS 198

The elevation is almost 4000 feet and you don't have to deal with a bunch of tourists when you get there.

Thanks for maintaining the map. I am going to have to leave Rabun County one day and go explore somewhere else.

I don't normally document rides with photos dualsport - being hard evidence and all you know.

As the crow flies, the new tag is .30 miles away, but you will have to ride just a little farther to get it. I will say no more.
