D.R.U.G. (DR650 break-in rides 1,2,3.)

I had planned to wait for the new Weestrom. I do not like waiting.
So I bought the DR instead. (I am sooooo glad that I am impatient. not bashing the Weestrom it is just that the DR has way more weeeeeeeeeeee than the Wee)

Black (the fast color)

As it is new (and new to me) It does not have a name yet as it sits there in the drive.

Way WAY too clean don't ya think?

Break in ride part 1:

Ghostrunner Mick heard the news and said: "LET'S RIDE"

So we met up 9am

Mick has a DR650 also. His already has the Touareg man and ADV stickers. The Nameless one sits there in shame.

With only 100 miles on the odo.

We head out. It is a beautiful morning. MT. Hood is hiding.

But the roads are fine.

The nameless one is still way too clean so Mick finds us a dirt road.

That leads to this.

MT. Hood is a bit bashful today and refuses to come out and play.

The nameless one is still clean as the dirt roads were dirt with just a few puddles.

I needed to make it a short day so Ghostrunner Mick offers to buy me coffee and pie before heading back to Pitland.

Off to Gov. Camp.

To the Huckleberry Inn for........YOU GUESSED IT,

HUCKLEBERRY PIE

THANKS MICK!

Now I must say as good as that pie was, Oregon huckleberries are just not as good as Rocky Mountain Hucklleberries.

First impressions of the DR: The seat sucks!!! The mirrors are useless (unless you like looking at your arms) 2” extenders fixed this.

Part one. The end.

DR break-in ride part 2 Smokinpig

Just another quick little ride back up to the HOOD.

Smokinpig backing out the pig.

The roads were good

MT. Hood was happy

A tribute bow to The Darth Peach Queen of Adventure rider revelry.

Then we're off.

I'm new to this riding snappiing thing...

Then it's time for some food. Can you say ZIG ZAG?

and the welcoming mascot.

Lunch.

and Smokinpig has roast beef.

While a decommissioned forest rat looks on.

Lighted by a Chandelier made from more decommissioned parts.

The signs come out early.

off we go

The end part 2

The 2" mirror extensions ROCK!!! The seat still sucks.

Better Than A Happy Pill

It was time. The DR formerly the nameless one is from here on to the end of time to be known as D.R.U.G.

Time to get out the heat gun,

DR break-in part 3

The PDX Meet-ups Clan sent out the word for a Sunday ride.( http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=215344 )

So I PM'd MortimerSickle to see if I could go out and play. The next morning I meet up with MortimerSickle and we are off to join up with the rest. Sorry no photos of the first part. It was cold and foggy and try as I did to snap a photo with my Winter riding gloves the little camera did not cooperate.
MortimerSickle took me on some very nice twisties. Then we made it to the first designated meeting place. We found 5 more ADV-nuts all bundled up.

Then it was off to meeting place two.

Where we found 7 more ADV-nuts

It was a warm 34 degrees.

Oregon coast found a prize in his tire.

Sorry for the lack of photos. On the way home.

Part 4

With a 1000 miles and fresh oil it was time to go thrash D.R.U.G. a little bit. So I called Smokinpig and Ghostrunner Mick and we were off.

to the left.

and to the right.

in search of dirt. Along the way.

We pass a memorial to a fallen ADV Rider. William "Wesley" Carter of Lake Oswego.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193108

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...34#post3854034

Wes was a nut. fun guy to be around from all accounts.

Getting closer to dirt.

closer.

closer.

Dirt.

more dirt roads.

We thought we were on FS rd.4610

But we were not. We were not lost... just "on the wrong road adventuring."

Time to have a look at the map.

Ghostrunner Mick is the designated "MAP BOY"
Smokinpig looks on.

Which way to go????

We found 4610

We stop for a photo op of MT. Jefferson. D.R.U.G. is dirty.

The Mirror extenders.

MT Jefferson

4610 has slid a bit and now the road goes down very sharply. Smokinpig wishing he had a smaller bike.

Ghostrunner tips over coming back up after we decide to turn around.

Even the trees weren't happy

Heading out.

Smokinpig slips in the mud and rides off the road. (just a little) Damn those GS's are heavy!

"D.R.U.G." THE DR650 ROCKS!!! B'DE, B'DE, B'DE, THAT'S ALL FOLKS

THANKS FOR COMING ALONG

NOW GET OUT THERE AND

RIDE RIDE RIDE

Didn't have too much to add since my camera seemed to be locked up in my tailbag most of the day...

We were about 4300 ft and there was still some color to be seen up there.

Another view of the Big Split.

The bottom looked like someone had to do some tree cutting to be able to get quads & bikes through the slide area.

Forest Rd 4610 offers a little bit of everything and is a fun ride.

Mick

Thanks Dakez & Ghostrunner for inviting me along. it gave me a chance to get the 'pig' dirty, and a chance to relearn my gravel riding skills. still have a way to go, but not as far as I thought.

Keeping up with the DR650's on a 1200gs is not quite possible, at least for me... the mud was fun, and I even manage to keep it upright when sliding in to the ditch.

Oh, and thanks for letting me try out the DR650, but if anything needs breaking-in, its your seat. I think i have sat on rocks that were more comfortable!

Also have some pic's to post, but need to get sugmug set up.

What and get them dirty? Those babies haven't left the pavement. They stopped three times just to wash the bugs off.

leaves & mud, it gets slick

Checking the maps

Dakez playing in the gravel, breaking in that DR650

Can almost make out a smile, or Dakez is gritting his teeth in pain from that stiff seat

Weather was nice & clear, but a little haze in the distance

Mick taking a run up the washout/slide
