I am in development of an aluminum fuel tank that will be a bolt on kit and will supplement the stock 1.9 gal. tank. So far, I am working on the mock-up. It will be awhile before I get an actual prototype fabricated. My goal is to add 1 gal. We are serious about making this work, but I can't promise anything.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with..
I'm hoping Clarke or IMS will do a see thru plastic tank, which will give us more range and a built in free fuel gauge.

I'm running stock gearing.
I'm using the stock carb, re-jetted, and the stock pipe, de-restricted, the stock air filter and the KDX200 air snorkle. Ok, here's my mpg numbers on two separate runs. Both rides were 65 to 75% dirt roads, at all speeds including runs up to 55 mph in 6th gear. And the other 25 to 35% were on the highway @ 60-65 mph, in only 6th gear. 106.0 mile ride, avg. 45F, 59.55 mpg 51.6 mile ride, avg. 60F, 61.94 mpg The fuel tank mock up is finished. The flat patterns for the pieces are ready. I think I have a source for the sheet aluminum to make up 1 or 2 tanks for testing. The actual fabrication process will not be a problem, but it may take a few weeks, between one thing and another. This fuel tank will not replace the stocker. It will be a second tank, with a "T" in at the carb, and it's own petcock and cap. Bake screwed with this post 03-04-2009 at 05:19 PM |

The 351 has it's own graphics coming soon. The finished versions will have flames in orange and reds atop the black.

Our dyno run today, with my bike. This is with the stock carb and stock pipe, and the rejetting I needed for the kit, along with the other "free mods"
I've not seen many torque curves as flat as that. That is a good thing. Good pull at the entire range. The 351 is a tractor motor. You can see she signs off early, around 7000 rpm. But the abundance of torque is available quite low in the rev band. When I ride this bike, it performs just like what you see. It's got excellent hit right from the start. I'm still tweaking the jetting, it's a bit rich across the range right now, so there might be another pony left in there.

Bake,
This engine mod is beyond my technical abilities. How many hours labor do you figure this would take if done by a bike mechanic? Thanks for the feedback and info you've provided. I like the new graphics too
