I'm on my way there in a month. I'll be living in Mt Vernon and will be commuting in the city to Hopkins by bike (both the pedal and the twist here to go fast kind)

Is anybody still watching this thread? If so how concerned should I be about bringing the bike to the city from a theft/vandalism stand point? I will be able to chian it to large steel post behind the building but it will still be outside.

Hope to catch up with some of you soon

Cheers...

I don't live in the city, but I've never had anyone mess with my bike parked in front of my apartment in Towson. I suspect with a lock and a cover you should be ok... but keep your insurance up just to be safe. Take the bicycle into the house though.

Well, knowing Baltimore City, and the police who protect it, you'll not only be dealing with a stolen bike, you'll be in jail for being an accessory to a large steel post getting stolen.

4 months AFTER it has been stolen, they will tell you it's in the impound lot and will cost you say $500 to a grand to get it out. It's how the city operates on stolen vehicles and I know a couple people this happened to.
OR they will just crush your bike like they do the impounded ones. They are no longer auctioning them off simply because they are financially retarded.
I almost had my XR650 ripped off at a light WHILE I WAS ON IT. Watch your 6 when at lights in the city. You get rushed from blind sides, pulled right off the back, one hops on and is gone. Entire deal takes seconds and welcome to Bulletmore, Murderland. If they fail to get your bike, a crack head will bust the insulators off your spark plugs to make crack pipes. Stash a spare or 3 so you can get home.

hmmm.... makes me not really want to leave this on the streets of Baltimore.

strange, I couldn't find a photo of just my bike. The girlfriend always makes fun of me for taking them so you would think there would be lots.

Anyway my ride is the airhead in the foreground.

If you see me around the city flag me down, but preferably less aggressively than OnOff was describing.

There is a group of airhead riders who share garage space in Mt Vernon.

Think lanyard-operated killswitch/explosive charge.

My friends dad had one straddle the front tire, grab the windshield, and tell him to get off. He promptly said no, blipped the throttle, and let off the clutch. I believe that pushed the man's testicles out through his rectum.

I'll stop now before this goes to the basement

if you really have some of those stickers to give away, I'd love one or two.

i've lived in the city all my life, and ridden for a good portion of it.. as long as your aware, its a pretty safe city. That said, i wouldnt park my bike on north ave, leave it there over night and expect to see it the next day.

I'm always down for a ride if anyone's up for it.. The next couple weeks are pretty bad as im moving into a new house in the county, but the wife should let me take breaks here and there. :) Currently, the only street capable bike i have is the gixxer, my KDX and the old Hurricane are in pieces.

FWIW, does anyone know any good places to ride off road in baltimore county?

...okay, just caught on to this thread. off-road in bal county?
man, you need to post that on CL, it's a 10k dollar question. basically, the answer is- of course not; but you could forward that to dsportdave1 (or grady) he might know a mile or two of decent off road semi-legal or illegal trail.
hey, a coupla of people and i knew of a dirt jump right smack dab in the middle of fells point. not so legal. speaking of fells, it wouldn't be a bad idea to throw together city riders meet up, i bet some intel would be exchanged there. and some interesting stories. just yesterday i had a 70yo man with (presumably) his wife give me the international "pop a wheelie" hands motion on presidents. the same folks look at you in the winter with that 'you're nuts' look.

BmoreBandit, and anyone else in the city
I would certainly be up for trying to get a group of folks together. I am moving up to the city today. It will be the middle of the week before we get the internet service set up so forgive me if I don't reply right away. Hope everyone got out to do some riding weekend.

I'm in the City through this weekend(one more shift left at work), then heading out for a month and a half on the road. Then I'll be returning to the city and moving into a new place in Canton mid-July and returning to work at Hopkins. So I'll still be around and interested in getting together.
