Question Need help near Winchester VA

A friend and I are hoping to ride Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway over the weekend of May 22. Our plan is trailer the bikes to somewhere near Winchester and drop off the tow vehicle and trailer and then ride for a few days. We would ride the whole trip but have some time constraints.

Is there anybody in the general area that would have a spot in the driveway / yard / where-ever that would be willing to let us leave the trailer etc.. for a few days?

Perhaps someone knows a place where we could leave them? I just am not comfortable leaving it in a Wal-Mart parking lot for that long unattended. I would hate to come back only to find it has been towed away.

We would actually be arriving first thing Friday morning (May 21) and leaving on Tuesday morning (May 25).

Any help or information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have room for your rig. I'm about 1/2 an hour west of Winchester. I'm at the end of a 5 mile (mostly) state maintained dirt road, however, so you might want to consider dropping all but the most dirt worthy bike first, and then dropping off the rig. Let me know if you are interested.

My advice...don't start at Front Royal. 35 mph and strictly enforced. FIgure out how to get started in Waynesboro where the Skyline Drive ends and the BRP starts.....45 mph and alot more fun. DAMHIK

As a backup, I've got a spot about 10 miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Lynchburg, VA. Actually off US 60 at a place called the Forks of Buffalo.
You can camp (outhouse available) if you want.

Further south than you requested, but just in case.

Thanks for all the help guys. We have decided that the vehicles available to act as tow rigs are less up to the trip than the bikes are.

So the current plan is to just saddle up and ride down, enjoy the BRP and ride back. If anything changes I will drop you a line.

Thanks.

Now that's a better plan.

Goodluck.

You looped all around the really good roads and stuck to the main ones. Bad move.

Find this road this weekend and yee shall find Nirvanna.....

I don't know what is better, getting there or riding it when you get there.

Sort of bud - We're doing the secondary twisties ( 28, 33, 39, 220 etc ) on Sat - that aforementioned map is precursor.

If you've got a loop that identifies what "you'd" consider nirvana, leaving Winchester with Afton as final destination - please shoot it over . I'm all s

Sorry bud, you've got to find "Nirvana" all by yourself.
There are enough clues to find it if you pay attention though.

My advice is when the roads no longer have painted lines your getting warmer..

You also want roads that start off... 6XX, 7XX, 8XX.

28, 33, 29 and 220 are OK, but they leave out the itty bit fun roads that just leave you grinning. Not to mention that they are heavily patrolled compared to the true backroads.
