adv990s to 640 adv,will i be very sorry?

I have a 06 adv 990s and i love it very much,i have it since new and it has a lot of accessories(high fender,300mm travel front fork with 950se springs,xenon low&high lights,bar risers,fastway pegs,black dog skid plate,neptun exhaust,complet gobi set and more...)
Now, the thing is that i dont have a car and i need one,in the mony i can get for the 990 i can buy 07 640 and a nice car but i am afraid to be very disapoited from the 640(vibrations , slow cruising speed and 2 up ridings) especially on the road(i think that off road it should be even beter then the 990 right?) so,from people who have/had them both, what do you think?
Thank you
Doron

i switched to a 640 from a BMW 1100GS. the lightness is great. the vibes are livable, but i don't squeeze the tank with my knees, when you do that you feel a lot more. Off road it is way better then the big bikes. i live at altitude, and the power is fine, not as relaxed at speed but still fine. But a lot of 2 up riding would suck on this bike. it is not as roomy in that regard.

Have had both. I went from the 640 Adv to the 990 ADv. If you ride a lot of pavement you won't be all the happy. If you do mostly dirt you will be very happy. I was looking for something to ride hwy with some dirt roads. I think the big bike is the way to go.

I have been riding bikes for about 40 years and know one thing for sure. One bike will never do the job of 3 or 4 bikes. It might get the job done but not a good as a bike for that one job.

Good luck.

Too bad you're not in the States...

.. or I'd think seriously about offering you a trade for my '07 640 Adv. Seriously, you mention a couple of concerns, and these are exactly why I'm now planning to move to a 990 R when I can.

I absolutely love the 640, and hope I never have to get rid of it. But if I can't find the dough, I may have to trade/sell it to get the 990R.

I bought the 640 as a multi-function, do-everything bike. And it's wonderful for that, as long as I'm solo. I'm happy with it on the highway, in the curves, and reasonably happy with it on the dirt. (But my 380EXC is so much better on the trails!)

However, my wife (who is not very big -- only 5'6", 110lbs), cannot stand to be on the bike more than 1 hour. I don't find the vibrations to be bothersome, but she does. And the seat is simply too small for two people. If I do keep the bike, I plan to have Renazco recover the seat in something grippy like suede, and put a bit of a step in it.

I find the speed of the bike to be fine for where I drive. I've got it geared down, but find that the "natural speed" of the bike is around 85mph. This is where I find the best combination of wind, rpms, vibration, etc. If memory serves, with the stock gearing my comforable speed was around 91 or 92.

Good luck with your decision -- they're both great bikes.

Drop me a PM if you decide to sell that 640. I had an 07, sold it and wished I hadn't. I am thinking of getting a 9xx if the right deal falls into my lap, but I have not ruled out a 640 either. I am just over in Illinois as well.
