Valve stems for spoke rims?
Maybe I messed up?
I recently had Cycle Gear to change a rear tire and while there they offered an angled valve stem. I was really happy to get that put on, but for one, it's angled, not 90 degree as I thought so it has practically made access harder, rather than easier, and secondly, it seems I have a very slow leak, possibly. I just noticed that Wunderlich has a 90 degree "for spoke rims, not cast." Is that because a cast rim stem won't seal in a spoke rim? (FYI I have spokes). Basically my question is, did I get the wrong valve stem? If this is something that can cause a long term leak I'll get it replaced. Otherwise I'll wait 'till I need another new tire.

Which Stem Installed?
Quote:
Putting air in or gauging pressure is more about technique that angle of stem...just my thoughts. Did you soap test the stem to see if it is leaking? Most often it is the stem valve and not the stem..

I looked at these once before, then forgot about them in the midsts of my other travails. How do you and Kermit have them pointed? Out to the side? Along the plane of the circumfrence? ...
I have spoke wheels. -ceej Quote:

I have the MotorcycleAnchor stems also and love them. Much easier to air down and air up for dirt riding. I mounted them at a slight angle directed at the gap between the spokes for easy access. Many K miles including Alaska with much dirt and have had zero problems. Muuuuuuuch easier access especially on the rear. One of the best mods I made.

Ordered mine
This will be my 4th Tire change in 33K miles. So, since I am doing front and rear decided to get the stems Jimmy V told us about from Motosport. These are the 90deg. ones for my 08 GSA with spoke wheels. Hope I have good results. Wont miss fishing my air chuck through the rotors on the front.

I've used these types of valves on both cast wheels of my old Fireblade and the spoked wheels on the Adventure,
![]() ![]() When I bought these types back in the late 90's I had to source them from Italy. They were kind of expensive to do that way. These I got from Wunderlich. These have been in my wheels since about 2005 I think. I can't remember for sure. I have replaced them once each end.
