new Mirage screen vs. old?

I have the older version of the Mirage plexiglass. I am not thrilled with the protection at 70mph and all the way up ( 5'8" 30 inch inseam) Does anyone know if the newer screen that I can buy for 60 bucks makes much if any difference. I have to believe that is why they went to a slightly bigger screen with the different lower lip? Any help would be appreciated. I have been contemplating a switch to the Madstad but I like the Mirage set up and mount my satellite puck on the GPS shelf.

My fairing says Mirage 2 but it has the old smaller screen. There is a newer plexiglass portion available that is a bit larger.

I asked Ian about the new screen and his comment was that there really wasn't much difference with just a little bit more coverage. I ordered one because I wanted a tinted screen which wasn't available when I ordered my Mirage 2. Ian was honest and spot on because I did notice a little better coverage but is it worth the extra money? For me it was. I still get some buffeting and I am about the same height as you. I don't think there is a perfect screen out there for everyone. There may be one with better coverage but I'm sure would not be as good looking as the Mirage IMHO.

V-stream w/ hand guards, what fits?

To the people with V-Stream windscreens, do you have hand guards as well? If so, what brand and how do they fit with the windscreen?

I have an 18" V-Stream and I have Rox risers. My mirrors hit the screen at full lock. I'd like to put on the HDB hand guards with integrated the mirrors. Anyone out there have these hand guards with any tall windscreen? How bad do they hit?

Yes I am getting great feedback from Ian. The later version probably wont be radically different but it does have a different bottom lip and it does come tinted which looks cool. He also indicated there is yet a third version in development. I might wait to see what that is all about. I agree that it is the best looking set up out there for the 800GS. I just am not thrilled with the buffeting yet.

Interesting - looking forward to seeing what the deal is with that.

I think unless you're hiding behind a barn door, you'll get some buffeting. I have the version 2 screen, and certainly get some - but nothing like the BMW "touring" screen. That sucked - it actually made my teeth hurt on the highway. I put it on the wife's bike.

I have HDB guards with an MRA screen. They definitely hit near full lock, though I can't say for sure how bad it is since I didn't bother to check the sweep before I put the screen on. I can still use the ignition fork lock, if that helps.

If I'm feeling fruity tomorrow, I'll yank the screen off and check it for comparo purposes.

Unless you have a Madstad - 15000 km and still going strong.

I'm 175 cm and just having the standard screen (in combination with a shuberth C3 helmet) gives low frequency, but loud 'noise' above 80 km/h
