Maybe it's just because I also have an 1150RT for that kind of need, but I really like having a bike WITHOUT a screen, and F8 is just about the perfect bike without one. (IMHO)

This is on a 2010 650 with stock h/bs, no risers, HDB guards and MRA screen. The HDB plastics hit first. Given a bit of time with a Dremel, that could easily be remedied and you'd gain about 1/8" inch of h/b bar travel on each side.

I measured the front wheel sweep (beak centerline to front fender centerline) and you lose about 1/2" of travel on each side.

When riding, it's only been a small issue once and that was while doing a U-turn (which I try mightily to avoid). I notice it more when backing the bike into my garage. My 3-point turn becomes a 4 or 5-pointer, depending on how well I parked my car in the driveway.

For me, the increased all-the-time riding comfort far outweighs the trade-off of the guards hitting the screen on the occasions that I need to turn the bars that much.

Mirage works great for me...

I have the 'older' version of the plexi and I am 6'. I have no issues with wind protection or buffeting (Shoei Hornet) at 120 kph. The Mirage is substantially better than the stock screen. I was looking for a screen that gave great protection, got me to the trail and was useable off road. The Mirage works great for this. If people are looking for windscreen that gives you wind protection like a Goldwing, then I think that they might have bought the wrong bike?

I have to believe that is why they went to a slightly bigger screen with the different lower lip? Any help would be appreciated. I have been contemplating a switch to the Madstad but I like the Mirage set up and mount my satellite puck on the GPS shelf.

Well, I think it is more important that the air is not to loud at all. I tested big screans which gave a lot of wind-protection, but the storm noise I had to suffer was quite terrible, that I changed back to the stock screen.

There are 60 pages worth of information and it would take me a long time to read all the information...

I am 4' 11" and currently looking for a good shield... I will have to get the shield cut down to a height that will work for me.

I am looking for a good shield that would provide good protection in the winter... and I am looking for a shield that directs the air flow towards the outter part of your hands. The stock shield is directing wind flow to the inner part of the hands which is directing the air flow over your hands and I am looking for a shield that tends to direct the air flow more out to where it is not directing the air over your hands especially riding during the winter season as I ride year round. Can someone give me advice to what shield they like best and how the wind is deflected off the shield especially when it comes to your hands?

I had the opportunity to test out the Aeroflow shield and was hoping to be able to test out different shields but I won't be able to test out different shield that I was hoping to like I was able to with the Aeroflow shield.

Thanks so much in advance.

bmwgsrider,

I would call Mark at Madstad and see what he suggests for you. He seems like a straight shooter and they have a good satisfaction guarantee. If it doesn't work out, return the shield for a refund.

Good luck.

Wunderlich suggested the clip-on if it was too short....

With the thing setup high, I can ride with the visor open with sunglasses right up to 80mph. I only have a 30 inch inseam, so i'm taller from the torso up. If I plan to do an extended off road trip, I'd put the stock back on because the wunderlich does wobble quite a bit when the going gets rough.
