The Jackson county markers are nice & new and silver. The mason county ones are rough.

I looked for the Lakin Hospital marker and couldnt find it. They tore down the old hospital so the sign might have gotten the axe too. Unless its over near the guard shack at the new hospital.

I plan on getting more this weekend as well.

First marker I've noticed with a 'dedication' on it

If you are traveling WV 16 through Itmann, you cannot miss this marker!

More information on Issac T. Mann. (Chrome, you might be interested in this, there is a U.S.S West Virginia connection to the Mann family)

South Charleston Indian Mound

It's taken me awhile to get these up. Life just can't seem to slow down. Anyway, here are the markers I snagged during our visit to the Capitol.

The Indian Mound marker is located in South Charleston along Route 60 at the mound (kinda hard to miss it.)

Unfortunately, the marker is gone, possibly for refinishing? You can see where the pole is still standing.

And here is a shot of the mound itself.

Next stop on the way home was the Ordnance Plant marker located along Route 60 1.4 miles west of Exit 56 (Montrose Drive) and 0.6 miles east of Exit 54 (Dunbar) on I-64.

I don't know how the Indian Mound got mentioned on this marker. Seems a little odd to me.

The next marker was the Morgan's Kitchen Museum marker. It's one that I've passed literally thousands of times and always found interesting. It's located in St. Albans along Rt. West (MacCorkle Ave), 1.8 miles east of Sattes Bridge.

Check this marker out! One of the oldest and deepest stratified sites of the Early Archaic period is located in St. Albans, West Virginia! How cool is that. Not a lot around to look at, but just think how it must've been way back when (10,000 years ago) to live in West Virginia. Wonder if they knew back then that they were living in what would become the best state in the Union?

The Nitro/Military Survey is located on WV25 in Kanawha county just east of the Sattes Bridge. It's almost exactly across the river from the last marker I posted.

My pawpaw worked for Monsanto, later Allied, back in the day. He was a First Class Repairman and welder, although he routinely had to pull shifts in the chemical areas. Primarily he worked with HF acid and asbestos! Imagine doing that today!

Note that this marker is leaning East because of soft soil.

Listed as missing.
Raleigh Rt 61 (not far from Prince, 41 intersects with 61).
