You obviously need a faster bike! :)

Thurs thru sun are no go's for me but don't wait for me. Otherwise, into the new year. Perhaps a group new year resolution session? :)

Happy New Years to my northern brethren.
Hang in there (sounds like you need little encouragement to do so) as riding season is just around the corner. (Forgive my over-optimistic attitude please)
Love your area and hope to return this coming summer to make another attempt at completing the Idaho Iron Ring in one day (fires nixed that plan last summer).

We're anxiously awaiting the warmer days and drier roads as well as your folks' return! Know that you are always welcome here!! Paul's Pancake Parlour awaits you again as well. :)

I think Sept 18 is our date for the fall ride, but come up any time! M

Hi Mike!
Thank your for your generous offer. We may have to come up earlier indeed.
Looking forward -- as I'm sure Emily is too -- to a return to the Lolo country.

Uli

If I had the first week in April to ride the paved roads around Moab and up into Colorado, worth doing or should I head to E Oregon and California and wait for a later date to visit CO?

I'm providing food at the Blacksmith on Thursdays & Fridays.
Might be a good time for a meet-up? I'd be working, sort of, but I'd be having beer too.....

Sounds good to me. I need to dig out my old growler to help with the take home.

Hi Mike,

That's pretty early in the year for the Colorado side (Moab MAY be OK, but that, too, can have late cold weather). If you want to ride through the San Juan mountains - most scenic part of Colorado IMHO - I would wait until late may to play it safe.
Sorry, I'm sure you were hoping for better news.

But anyway, be sure to use the Casa Uli as a hotel when you come through, OK? Remember that I'm right on the border between UT and CO.

Cheers!

FWIW,
We came back through Panguich, UT in early June heading for Moab and ran into snow. Great country but weather controls the ability to get in and around there. Good luck in your endeavors...

Sounds like I should put a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C together, then see what the weather looks like closer to that time. :) Tons of great options. May lean toward eastern WA, OR and down into/back up out of CA (middle and north). Have V Strom, will travel! :) Thanks for the info, guys! CO and its elevations may need to wait for warmer part of the year.

New projects added to the stable

Blasts from the past. Sitting in garage for the last 30 years. Now in my shed ready for some restoration. The Hodaka had some dissasembly, but parts are all there and I used to take one apart in my sleep - 40 years ago. The Bul? Dissasemble, clean, replace stuff as needed, but actually in running condition (no, haven't turned over the engine until I'm sure the internals look good, but looks promising from the outside.) Right shift, left rear brake. That should be interesting. Had a BSA 441 Victor like that 40 years ago too.

The previous owner was a friend who past away through an unfortunate accident about 20 some years ago. His wife (my wife's best friend) recently approached me about taking these bikes (Kalispell area). Never saw the Bul run and I think it has been stored for at least 30 years. Had three sons and someone "dissasembled" the Hodaka some, removing cylinder and piston, but all the parts are still there.

Wow! Looks like a fun project! I'm pretty sure I would struggle with right shift and left brake though!
