Exploring Alabama over the holidays…
My brother came to Alabama for the week, and this was his first ride on his Husky 610.
We headed out to ride some of my favorite local spots. I wanted to ease him in and not do anything too technical. ![]() This is an old abandoned limestone quarry. The limestone was sent by rail to the iron furnaces about 30 miles south to Birmingham. We headed over to Swann Bridge. ![]() This covered bridge is on the National Register of Historic places. It was built in 1933. And, at 305 feet in length, it is the longest covered bridge in existence in Alabama. ![]() This is one of several local area abandoned railroads. ![]() ![]() Good thing he’s not afraid of heights. ![]() With all the rain we have been getting, the creeks are running good! ![]() ![]() Looks like we’re just about over the drought. We headed over to a local cave. ![]() The trail was quite wet! ![]() Looks like the local artists have been busy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I tried to get him to cross this creek, but he would have nothing to do with it. ![]() He did great for his first time out. I eventually threw a little technical stuff at him. He handled everything just fine with no problems. ![]() Back home to wash them and put his away until his next visit.

Enjoying empty roads...

Looks like a good ride. I just put some more road worthy shoes (pirelli scorpion a/t 90s) so I am going to stay away from the real technical stuff for now but let me know if you wanna go riding sometime.

Hello, Fireman1000. Go to the Visit Exploring Alabama link embeded in my signature. Then, go to the Abandoned Railroads thread. That should help. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks for all the great comments. Happy New Year!
