On the subject of the Marlin 94s in that caliber, I ordered one from a shop in a nearby town several years ago and ended up waiting over 18 months before it finally arrived. I was told at the time that Marlin made them in runs, and suppose that's true of a lot of firearms manufacturers. Anyway, when mine finally arrived I was suddenly seeing new ones in shops all over the place, giving credence to the "run" hypothesis. And they didn't disappear for quite a while, I remember that one stainless steel 357 sat on a nearby shop's rack for months before someone finally bought it. But once they disappear for a while they suddenly become very much in-demand. I wonder what is up with that, a sort of "forbidden fruit" phenomenon??
True. Most makers have gone to a "lean manufacturing" process. The worst offender of all time has to be Springfield Armory. Everything they "make" except the XD line is almost impossible to get on a regular basis.

A friend of mine has been looking for a Springfield EMP in 40S&W for about two years, and no success thusfar. I do not know specifically his search has consisted of, but do know that he's tried to get the local shops to locate one for him. And I do notice that their M1As seem to appear in clumps, and then you don't see any new ones for a while.

There are pretty much -zero- 357 rifles to be found around here, unless you want one of those boat-anchor Henrys. I think that the Marlin would be more fun at the range, but the Ruger would be just as good a deer rifle, a little lighter, and the stainless/synthetic outfit would allow it to be abused a bit more I think. But as said earlier, I bet I could order a Ruger at the store if I wanted, a Marlin not so much

I love hunting rifles with wood stocks, and .22 rifles with wood stocks, but I still like tactical rifles in plastic and such. Everyone should have at least ONE AR and ONE NICE hunting rifle with a beautiful stock.

+1 I agree. And one good revolver, and one semi-automatic pistol.

Uh-oh, of all of my guns not one is an O/U shotgun. I have side-by-sides, pumps and semi-autos, but no O/U.

Yep. I love revolvers and semi autos. I'd even go further to say everyone needs at least ONE 1911.

This is the only place where we might differ in our "brothers separated at birth" deal on guns. I never liked side by sides but WANT an OU so bad.

My back yard is about the size of a typical living-room, unfortunately. But I do have a nice chunk of acreage just 20 miles from town where I can play. It would be nice, however, to just be able to walk out the door and shoot, something that I cannot do.

My first shotgun was a side-by-side and I've loved them ever since. I wouldn't mind having an O/U if I could find one that fit me......I had a Ruger Red Label for about 20 years and that bitch just kicked the holy livin' shit out of me every time I pulled the trigger, even with target loads. Must have been a fitment issue because I've shot all kinds of different 12 gauges without experiencing that. I ended up giving it to my son and he finds that it kicks the shit out of him as well. I told him to feel free to sell it.

I picked up a Stoeger Condor youth model 20 ga. over and under, same length overall as my Rossi coach gun. It makes a nice kick around the property/snake gun.

Another thing I will add is a OU rifle shotgun combo. A 20ga and 223 would be best for me or maybe a 20ga .22mag.
