I became a Glock owner almost 2 years ago I guess with a Gen 3 G23. Love it. Always liked the looks and feel on the early full size Glocks though, too.

Was window shopping at the Trading Post last night and here was this old 1st generation G17 for 300 bucks. I figure, how can you go wrong for 3 bills? I pick it up and the serial number is a BD indicating December 1986 production I guess. Took the money in this morning and made it mine.

Went to the range with it and my 23. Shoots very nicely. I see I'm a bit high and slightly right; I'm used to my 23 where I've done the trigger polish and put a lighter spring in it so maybe that's all me. But it shoots well and I'm looking forward to burning lots of ammo with it. So now I'm a multiple Glock owner, the sickness has taken hold.

That old g17 is a first gen. Moderately sought-after collectible. I've been looking for a good one for awhile.
I have 11 Glocks, some moderately tricked out for IDPA, one Sept 11th commemorative, and a blue simmuntions gun, just becaise I can. I got the fever, too, I reckon.

Edit: Awesome re-hash of what the OP said...I'm barring myself from posting when over-medicated.

And you don't have to be the one to clean it either.

The difference is below the top grip screw. "Wide body" (high cap) 1911s have a different mag well, wider trigger bow and longer mag release. The rest is the same.

Got two new ones today. One is a kit from AWA. It's a longhorn, looks like my old Longhorn but isn't built yet. It is all in bags in the original box! Kinda cool but since I don't have the tools to install the barrel I am taking it to the gunsmith to have it put together. The other is a Navy 1851 Conversion converted from cap and ball to metallic cartridge, to .38spl. Here is a pic of what the AWA will look like when I have it put together,

The top one.

and here's the 1851 conversion from a celly picy,

The AWA is .357mag...or .38spl.

Quite a contrast to the race gun 1911....
