Is this 500 grade steel? So far I don't have anything that will survive a rifle well as I found out with the 7.62x54.

Lucky holes can be welded shut, it's when the plates get bent that I am screwed.

Or just counter weight the top so there is only a few ounces of weight making the target return to the bottom. Down side is it will spin longer that way.

Advice from the collective

OK, so I've got my KLR for sale and a fellow calls me up. He's a bit short on the cash end, but he does have some guns.........a lot of guns, it turns out. Only a couple catch my eye and out of those two, only one has been on my "someday-I'll-buy-one" list. I'm curious as to what you fellow gun nuts think I should allow.

Ruger GP100, stainless, 6". It's the older one with the wood insert on the grips, not the current Hogue grips. This is a gun that's been on my list for quite a few years.

Marlin 917S with laminate stock and a decent scope. I've always toyed with the idea of acquiring a .17hmr of some sort. This one seems decent.

Both of these are in excellent shape. The Ruger has only had maybe 100 rounds through it. The .17hmr has had maybe a couple hundred. I was asking $3,500.00 for the '08 KLR.

What do you think I should allow against the bike?

A quick internet search "guess" looks like $700, $500 for the Ruger and $200 for the Marlin.

Ahh, the fun of a well shaken soda bottle and an SKS. Hickok45 would be proud.

Can't believe all these guys left you hanging like that... shame, fellas.

I like mine, reliable, accurate, classic lines. If I had to do it again, I probably would have dropped the extra $$ for the E-series bells/whistles.

With good bullets and handloads it would be quite a capable deer gun. The cartridge itself is capable of exceptional accuracy. I think it'd be a ball in a 7-lb Mauser with a 20" barrel.

Do you know if the the barrel is .308" or .311"?

It is amazing what some "outlaw" stuff goes for....I was reading an article the other day on Charles Whitman, and his stuff they can not give away. IIRC the family ended up with a great deal of his things and the public just does not want them.

Odd how that works.
