I just brought up this as a choice for you in lieu of the un-reliable ppk you talked about above....I just figured that after you said it was a great carry gun and you quit after it jammed and no longer trust it, that you liked the pistol and knew that the round was quite effective....

Check it over very close....I was amazed in talking to someone that is really into these rifles that people are making fake american rifles.

If it is a remington or westinghouse you are going to be ok with the modern ammo....provided you even want to shoot the thing. GOOD american rifles are pretty darn hard to find.....and if you can find one that is still long....remember those are longer then the 91/30's then you have a bonus.

If the rifle is in real good shape, nice and crisp markings.....NO import marks then I would say it is a good price.....this is not your run of the mill $99 crate rifle.

Wow. The first thing I noticed was the distance markings on the rear sight were not evenly placed, more of a logarithmic scale. The second was the stock is much heavier. Fit and finnish was waaaay better too. Like comparing a Honda scooter to a Chinese scooter.

That sounds like a converted Arshin scale sight. Did it look like this?

Fit and finnish will be better, generally more accurate. Trigger will be worlds different too. Lots of info here.

thanks for the clarification ... all very valid points. sure .380 is under powered as compared to other available rounds. but fact is a .22 accurately placed will probably do the job.

if you can reliably place ALL your bullets within a pie plate at 15yds, each and every time. then I'd say your weapon is up to the job.

if you are dead comfortable with your Bersa digesting any and all rounds. great! personally would not be comfortable with depending on any auto pistol to reliably feed. until I've send a couple hundred rounds down the barrel. that translates into $300-$400 for defensive ammo. very few folks I know are ready to dump that kind of $$$.

fully loaded my PPK was just too heavy comfortably carry for long. we all can agree the best weapon is the one on your person. your super duper .44 mag is worthless in the gun safe, if you need it NOW!

I think that a wheel gun is going to be as claw hammer reliable as you can get. The thing that is IMHO the biggest cause of problems in auto guns is the part that goes in and out, has the spring, holds the bullets....so much can go wrong with the simple mag that it is the real weak link in the system.....and you really don't know it will give you problems till you have the problem....then you will spend time trying to figure out if the mag is really the problem before you decide to toss mag #4 into the trash can....you have no idea how bad I want to call it a clip just for the fun of it.

Right now I am using a 32....it is about all I can handle with my current health problems.

The real biggest problem is the operator. Limp-wrist the gun, and you'll get failure to feed all the time with a recoil-operated weapon. This is especially true with lightweight weapons that have less inertia.

I use Chip McCormick magazines in the 1911 that I carry. Once I know that a new mag is reliable, it's used for carry only. I have other mags to use at the range. If one goes sour, I smash it flat with a big hammer and toss it.

That's the "modern" one, most commonly encountered. The ramp follows the 7.62x54r ballistic path fairly well, just don't expect miracles at the 2000m setting

One of my old company commanders was asked why he did not carry a rifle. He replied that if it got to the point where he really needed one, there would be plenty lying around on the ground around him.

Nope , but out to 5-600 meters is pretty good for iron sights

We were messing with ours last week, out a ways, and were impressed. THe long barrel helps

+1 ... betcha limp wrist is responsible for a high percentage of jams on small auto pistols.

that's part of the reason for going to a 11oz revolver with internal hammer. dead reliability with super low weight makes carrying effortless. most times I'll forget 340PD is on me.

when shooting full house .357 rounds from an 11oz pistol ... you'd better be ready for a handful!! no it doesn't make your hands bleed, but it does require steady practice to be able to hit your target.

when in practice, I can hit a pie plate at 15yds and keep all five .357 rounds inside.

recently purchased a S&W 66-2 .357 ... been working hard on shooting that accurately. My most accurate pistol is hands down 1911 Gold Cup that's been extensively worked by me. preference is wilson combat magazines.

Just checked out a new gun show. I believe it is called "American Guns". What a pos show this is. The same old crap drama that is in all the other reality tv shows. The only ok gun shows are "top gun" and "top shot", and even they are mediocre at best. What are everyone elses thoughts on reality gun shows.
