Lever takedown? Wild West Guns can turn your lever action into this, their Alaskan Co-Pilot.

Or, how about a backpack high power rifle? Nemisis makes a nice one.

It's got to be a typo, AFIK there is no 1894 in 45-70. 38-55 yes, if you can find one...

As a person that owns both an 1894 and 1895 I wasn't aware of an 1894 in 45-70.

For carrying on a motorcycle, I would consider having a take-down conversion done.

Although it is probably cheaper to buy them that way (you can buy some like that from the manufacturer).

Here is what you need for that KLR, Rossi ranch had with a 12.5 inch barrel, its actually considered a pistol so no NFA paperwork, Comes in .357 magnum, .44 magnum and .45 long colt.

I like that the barrel is octagon and I like the looks - but it doesn't look long enough to be anything but an SBR, and I don't care for rifles that shoot handgun cartridges.

I have an M1894 Winchester carbine that's been converted to .444 Marlin. Lots different than pistol cartridges.

45-70 Grizzly? conversion

Somewhere along the way (as in several years ago) - observed an article -- can't remember all the details but they were as i recall improving the basic 45-70 (think with longer brass from a related cartridge???) and then converting the rifle to a take down model. Lost the article but at the time felt that this would be the ultimate traveling big boom weapon

Wild West Guns in Alaska does that. You can go with their .450 Magnum (I think they call it that). The other common option is to mod the action just a little (I think they just mod the loading mechanism) to handle a .45-90 or maybe a .45-100.

I really like the stuff that Grizzly does, but I don't see them offering any take-down conversions. The only take-down they offer is on the 39-A which is already a take-down from the factory.

I believe WW Alaska calls their cartridge a 457 Magnum. Now I get to post a picture of Phred. :Swoon

I have a few "backpackable" lever guns, just put a sling on your lever gun and a small hook (as wide as the sling) on the top side of the packframe & a strap on the bottom of the frame & you can have a "backpackable" rifle too. BTW, this idea works great, I have used it with Savage 99's, Winchester 86's & 94's, and for non lever guns a mini-14 & H&R handi rifle.

It is an SBR, so gotta pay the tax stamp on that one. I hear you can handload 357mag to approach 30-30 velocities, so not too shabby.

What about a lever gun in .500 S&W? That is a pistol cartridge with some oomph.

I have a Model 94 carbine that's been rebored and rechambered to .444 Marlin. It was done by Bob Snapp of Clare, MI, and it cycles and feeds perfectly. It's had a shotgun style buttstock fitted to help with recoil. I consider it to be a great truck gun.
