Day 5: Banjsice, Stol again, Selle Nevea, Passo Predil and Mangart

In the morning Anita left for work in Munich. And because it's Hardheaders birthday I do that tourguide thing today. The first leg leads us south into Banjsice with a nice view on the Triglav N.P. Wonderful small country and mountainroads, all paved:

We decided to go up the Stol Mountain again, enjoy the this time perfect weather and a lunchbreak with a great view:

We were not disappointed:

first try for a lunch place, but too windy here:

After lunch we crossed over to Italy, to the Selle Nevea (finest Italian mountain road) up to Lago Predil:

One of the highlights in that region is the Mangart road which leads up in the mountains and around one of them. As we did not know it yet we gave it a try despite it was still closed. First stop was this snow-field here where we met a local guy who broke the mirror of his Dakar while trying to cross it. Since Hardheader did not trust his tyres he didn't want to go further but helped me pushing the Transalp through the snow.

A few kms and two or three snowstacks further I also had to give up. Even if I would have managed to pass this one it became clear that I couldn't do the whole trip.

Day 6: returning home

Just got on our bikes and went home... it's just some 350 - 400kms. Nice to see how the box is hanging on the bended pannier:

So that's it... thanks for reading and your kind comments.

Meet you on the road!

Andy

Oh man, I'm jealous! I was in Slovenia with my wife last summer in some of the same spots. The differance is that she doesn't ride and we walked through the country. A very beutifull place though...

By the way, we were also in Munich. It's a great city that I want to return to at some point.

What a beautiful trip and majestic scenery! I am also impressed by the male/female ratio of riders in your vicinity (and their beauty as well). Thanks for sharing.

I've been along that river both this and last year and failed to take the time to stop for a photo...because that road towards Bovec is so much fun to ride. I'm heading back to Slovenia again next June for more and will make a point of stopping the next time.

It's a great area for all kind of outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, skiing, white water kajaying, paragliding, mountainbiking.... so a lot of great and crazy people hang out there .

Send me an email when you are here the next time, maybe I can show you around a bit.

Cheers, Andy

Also for us it was the first time we had this... Eike is Ralfs wife, they did a lot of ADV-touring together before the setteld down, got to kids and a house...

Anita used to be my girlfriend, she's a really wild one . That's her on her first offroad tour, with street-tyres (I completly left it to her decision to turn around or not, she wanted to go through!):

But we recently split . Seems like for the next big trip (Sahara Oct. 2009) it will again be only Hardheader and me, like it was in the past.
