Las couple of times I've brought the XR, and been schooled on good fast dirt and fire road riding. I may ride the Strom this time and explore Rt 250 over McDowell summit and see if I can get back via Reddish Knob. Never been over the Knob though I know others have. Rt. 250 has twisties that rival anything on the Dragon, at least for a couple of miles.

So, like the other guy's posts, you can find a ride that will suite any set-up you've got.

I've seen a CBR show up; he didn't ride with the KTM's but got major props for just getting there.

I'm going to put TKCs on my bike for the event. And then I'm going to ride the most technical trails that anyone can do.

redish knob

Reddish knob has some great 4X4 trails that run north on top the ridge........there was at least one gravel road up there that would bring you back down the WV side to rt 220.

Heck that area could be another camping trip. You have Hone Quarry camp ground off of rt 257 on the VA side or Brandywine camp ground off of rt 33 on the WV side.

I'm sure "Mr. Sprite" would hook us up.

Ummm, iff'n it scares you, I may reconsider a return route from 250 . . . .

. . . . . Being the old chicken that I am!

I may ride down from NoVA next month and scout the area a bit.

reddish knob

Orexpat,

I'll ride with ya. I plan to put on some GP-1 tires on the KLR so I have a little more confidence on the black top.

No need to be scart over little ol reddish knob. Just get to rt 257 in Briery Branch and run it to the top of the mt. It turns to groomed gravel road at the top and drops into wv close to Sugar Grove. When you hit pavement again you can go north to brandy wine (sweet) and pick up rt33, OR go left to sugar grove and ride moyers road to 220 (also sweet). Google maps makes it look confusing but if you ride 257 east to west it's cake.

ORexpat,
That's good riding up there, and lots of it. It would be more fun on the dirt bike. Heck you might just get me up there. I'm about ready to camp up there and do a little riding myself. Pick a warm weekend when you pick one. I may not have my orange paint shaker ready but if y'all don't get too off road, I could take the Triumph, and ease along.

Wink A little Recon?

Hmm. I can see a little reconnaissance ride comin' here . . . .

The bride (well, 33 1/2 years worth of bride . . . ) will be out of town in April. But I've got a day of vacation coming in March . . . . so guess I'll watch the weather and get in touch with a couple of you guys.

I could see a nice ride from Laurel Fork, south then east on 250, link up with some dirt roads back into WV, then back over Spruce Knob to camp. Worth lookin' at.

Read your post on getting both Ninja and GF to the top of Reddish Knob. Great post. Don't think I wanna take the 'Strom on some of those cowtrails . . .
