Long Way Up Ride to the G.C.

Be sure to take video as you ride as it doesn’t sound like you will have time to stop and take pictures

I will not be on this ride, but I do thank Eddy for organizing the route. I know he has spent a lot of time on it and I think those going on this ride will have a blast, especially those that like the fast paced open throttle rides (and you know who you are).

Devil’s Run Ride on May 30th

Anyone else planning to attend the Devil’s Run Ride on May 30th? I think B-Mac and his wife are going 2up on their Strom?
Karla and I are planning to attend and will be heading up Friday
The route is all pavement but it is the best set of twisties anywhere in the state (and beyond) by far.

The registrations is FREE. The organizers got some pretty good specials on Rooms, a Coffee shop and a Café on the route (even a discount on gas ) plus they are doing some prizes as well.

You can get all the information HERE.

I don't care to ride that fast for that long. This might be a great ride if spread over a longer period of time. I might be alone in my thinking, but I ride off road to enjoy my bike and enjoy the magnificent Arizona Country side. At the above speeds I don't think I would be able to see anything but the road in front of me.
I gotta agree with you Don. I'm thinking it's a little too fast paced for me too.

I may be up for this. I sent the shock back to the shop so the DR is down for a couple weeks again. So this is perfect for my VFR.

So I have to ask the group....how technical is the 'long way up' ride going to be? I'm up for just about any ride, I just wouldn't want to hold back the more advanced riders.

I see a lot of rides, but being a new rider I don't know if it's going to be a hard single track or just an easy fireroad.

Sorry about your DR. That really blows! But your VFR will love you for taking it on 191!!!

It's not to technical at all really, just a lot of miles to cover on some quick riding FS roads. The most difficult parts last year was maintaining good speed on the FS roads near I-40 because of many pot holes and some weekend warrior truck and quad traffic. The road leaving Jerome had just been graded also so all the new sharp marbles on the surface slowed me and my pig a little.

Z Long Way Up 2009 -Phx -Az

Here's my senario split by split on how z Stages are divided timewise vs mileage . ( take in consideration that i didn't calculate z average speed of Enduro bikes ).

--Must take off from Mayer at 6:30am
arrive to Jerome ~ 8:35am -----------> Distance covered: 62 mi.
--Must take off from jerome at 8:45am
Arrive at Spring Valley rd (Hwy 40) ~11:15am -->Distance covered:
60.5 mi.
--Take off from Hwy 40 at 12:15pm
arrive at Hwy180 & FS320 ~ 1:35pm----->distance covered:36mi.
--Take off from 180 at 1:45pm
arrive at E. Rim rd ~ 3:15pm ----->distance covered: 33.5mi.
--take off from E. Rim rd at 4:00pm
arrive at Gray Mtn Truck Trail ~ 4:40pm --->distance cov. :22.3mi.
--take off from Gray Mtn Truck trail at 4:40pm
arrive at Hwy 89 ~ 5:35pm .
We might have to skip z last stage (FR418) till Sunday .

I agree with 100% Don but we have to try to find out if it's doable , last year me & Nuclieye in our first attempt were doing a great time and we took off way too late tham 5:00am and stopped many places took some pics. and we still made to z hwy 180 ~ 1:45pm
here's me & Nuclieye last year at 1:45pm on intersection of hwy180 & FS320
U can see all those accumulated clouds behind us turned into a violent storm in z next 35 min. (it was z mansoon season)

Once we get into a deserted farm (closed gate ahead) after drivin' few miles inside FS320 it was very scetchy to continue this ride . In fact we were drivin' straight to z storm . So we had no choice but to bail out this ride in no time . In fact we got hamered with rain & thunderstorms on z way back to Flag. we can see z lightning within few wards away .

Z Long Way Up 2009 -Phx -Az

Attention Please :

After talking to some riders & to Robin & after carefull consideration i notice the following :
To better accomodate our rider in this event & to compromise with all levels & skills given z different variety of terrains , i found that is z best to split this route to be accomplished in 2 days . This way we will have more time to rest and have some FUN for Saturday evening , get ready 4 z next day (even mess with our bikes if needed) . Since we have Sunday open anyway & we're already in z Flagstaff area might is well take advantage of time .
We still gonna take off the same time on Saturday morning .
The reroute for DAY 1 will be z following :
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...,0.400314&z=11http:// here

the reroute for DAY 2 :
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...5&ie=UTF8&z=12http:// here

Don now u have no excuse but to join us ...

Crown King...

So KBBLUE & myself head up to Crown King today (Friday)...

We get off @ Black Canyon City & hit the dirt.

Well, I need some mx help as my slip on muffler fell off. I now know what a Hardly feels like... Under powered & a LOT of noise (Laugh, it was a joke). After finding a hardware store we were under way again.

The rest of the trip it's raining more the higher in elevation we get. Soaked with no jacket on, we make it to CK for lunch & a beverage.

On the return, we decide to pull over & pop some rounds off. KB just finished his round 'try'n(More Humor) to hit a pop can from 5 feet' & I stepped up to the firing line. After I finish He's yelling back up!!!! I look down & there's a coiled rattler about 1 foot from me. I did a little dance to get out. We were back & forth in that spot over & over as we loaded/unloaded the pistols. Thank god the weather was a little on the chilly side & keep'n him a little more doscile.

GREAT RIDE TODAY!!!!!! Lots of practice dealing with fishtailing, due all the rain heading up to CK. Com'n from the street, not something I'm NOT used to.

D
