You can get better wattage bulbs all over but I'm not sure how hot is too hot with the plastic housing. Baja Designs has a glass housing. When the bike is yours....Rewind the stator yourself. its easy and for just the cost of the wire and a better regulator you can have a 100W bulb!

Hello! First post here!

This winter I'm going to upgrade my Xr a bit. I already got Arrow full system and a TM42. But what do you guys think off adding a hotcams stage 1 (can get a good deal at this) and a high-comp piston, 11:1 or 12:1.

Will it be good?

Edit: A pic of the ride, from this summer :)

Headlight

The OEM XR650R headlight upgrade should be:

Mfg Product Number: 33123-MK2-671

This is a direct replacement with a glass lens, and a 55W bulb works well in it (compared to stock). I think they are ~$35.00.

It even works significantly better than the 50W bulb mod in the original plastic headlight.

I was planning on either rewinding or buying the upgraded stator. If I could put in the other type of plug or connector to run, say a PIIA light, that would be cool.
Yeah, the bike has to be mine first. Still no interest in collecting cash. Money hasn't been transferred yet, so it kinda works out.

Speaking of lights. Is there any way I can check the bikes power system without starting the engine? That is, can I plug a battery into the loom somewhere to get 12V running through it?

I want to do some headlight stuff (no lowbeam) but I don't want to let the bike just sit there gurgling away while I get my shit together. It's spring here in Australia and stating to warm up.

Cheers,
Andrew

Hi Modette,
Where did you get the parts diagram? I had a website that had all makes and models but the 'puter got rid of my bookmarks so I lost it.

Cheers,
Andrew

Could you just use a battery or another 12v source and use alligator clips and power just want you needed power to so you don't have it going through the whole system? Maye a 12v source AFTER the regultor. but I'd disconnect any expensive electrical parts you aren't checking like CDI and coil?

Most online sites that sell OEM parts have Microfiche. I use Ronayers and service honda but bike bandit also has searchable parts diagrams.

Nice video

My eyes hurt now.
Just finished an incredible ride in central California today. One of the best I've ever had. However, Busted my right radiator, broke the shroud, i think that's about it right now. But during the clean up I found this:

Does anyone else have a little hole like that on top of their engine?
