Well boys, I am thinking about joining the club. I found a 2000 XR650R in town for $2200. Seems like a deal. Anything I should watch out for... problem areas?
Matt

Couple of questions for you BRP gurus
How much of a weight saving to be had by changing tail pipe and/or complete zorzt unit?? Also what type of enduro/plate/headlamp allows you to retain the oe speedo............all / one / none ? Love the oversize tank in white, not sure why anyone would stick the oe tank back on if they are doing adv/offroading. |

You can lose 3-4 lbs with an aftermarket muffler, some brands the header is lighter as well.Akrapovic is probably the lightest/toughest if that makes sense. The FMF stuff is light but fragile by the same yardstick.
An MX front mudguard is about 6 ounces lighter as well. You can lose about 10-12 lbs and then you hit the wall to speak, after that it costs a few bucks to shed a bit more. It's the law of diminishing returns. Precision Concepts has Ti rear springs for 200lb rider for $250 USD ,it's the deal of the century if you ask me. H.T.H.

There really isnt much you need to look for besides normal dirt bike damage and use. If you could try and check for the bearings but thats kind of hard to do without taking it apart, or atleast getting it on a stand. make sure it starts easily (with the proper technique of course) and that when running it doesnt have any weird sounds; take note though the xr engine is quite loud especially with a large guard on.
finding out if it has been uncourked is probably the only thing really; they are quite durable machines. Good luck, Chris. |

Thanks guys. I talked to the owner, he has only had it a few months and says he wants something less powerful. I can buy that, but he also said that one guy came out to look at it and told him that it felt like it needed a new spark plug. Fishy?
Also, it doesnt have a kickstand. Why would this be? Raced?
